Any idea on ETA? Glad to hear that the ball's rollin' for you. I can't order mine 'til next week The Gods of Work, Bank Hours, International Time Differences and Late Release Date all combined to subject me to even more waiting.

So, if you don't mind, G, I'll just live vicariously through you for awhile

Alright, hate to be the balloon popper, none of this is PC Torque's fault - but...

Cheap? No offense but they aren't cheap.

Prescott is presently not the way to go either...waiting to see benchmarking on the new ones, the present CPUs were outperforming them. They really need MBs designed specifically for them to perform well.

$300+ premium over a similar 4780 is too much for my blood. M11 is not that special nor is the MB.

Poor choice on the Internal Wireless card too. Turbo models are a great concept but too many negatives with them - do some research if you don't believe me.

IMHO: After all the hype - nothing special for the price. If the price would have been about $100 difference it would have been worth it....

dual-channel RAM and the ability to have a 2nd hard drive... I'll take the 8790. You can have the 4780.

ha ha no i was compairing it to the 4780, its like 200 dollars more with the same config as my 4780 so you might as well see it on eBay sometime soon.

I don't want to take up more space by starting an unnecessary thread

Yay! I finally bought the notebook I wanted at the configuration I wanted.

The price is a little higher than I anticipated, but still acceptable. My configuration is the 8790-S with the changable parts noted in my signature.

As for the internal wireless mentioned by GalaxiePete; I know that internal wireless sucks, but its free and will work until I get my next paycheck and buy a real PCMCIA A+G card or similar. It only has to work for another 30 days from now (which might be about the time I actually get the notebook ).

Cheap, no it is not cheep. It took me almost 8 months to save up enough money to even consider buying the machine. But the $2700 I paid is a far cry less expensive than I would have paid for a similarly configured Dell XPS or 9100, or alienware. So here's to market forces and capitalism: .

Praise to the pixel gods that I receive the notebook by the end of the month intact, in great working order, and no dead/stuck pixels.

I am so glad I got the 8890 - why? Just for fun I spec'd out an 8790-V with *all* the options I would have wanted. Close to $US4000 . That is the trouble with all this nice new tech - you get to spend all your money.

PC Torque = Lolly shop

And to all those who ordered some congrats and smashed bananas for clear screens.

Is that including the Extremely Expensive 3.4ghz chip?

I ordered the 3.4Ghz Northwood version with everything I wanted, even threw in a spare 12cell battery (I dunno, might as well) and it was just under 3K.
Yeah the EE and I also configured 2GB of memory which added about $US700 to the price which is why I am going to wait until the price drops before I get the 1MB sticks for my 8890.
congrats guys....

I got my 4780 and am still configing it and all, dont make fun of me please cuz I am taking 4 accelerated 5 week courses at the same time....
and its not like I am a spring chicken ya know...

I have to say from the prices I was seeing for dual channel I expected the 8790 to be way more....

I am loving my 4790, just a curve getting used to using xp pro, alot of my options and shortcuts are unavailble on this OS for macromedia and adobe... I wounder if adobe cs and macromedia mx 2004 fix this... hmmmm still drooling over 8790 256 pro card....

ah well my 4780 is kool, plus not like I have the 300 bucks to go up...My huns still giving me grud for the cost of this one, haha

anyways... enjoy guys I am happy for ya, be sure to let me know how it preforms, maybe next weekend I will have time to install my video progies and encode some of my dvd's just to see how it preforms..... wounder if yours will be twice as fast with double the vid....
