Windows XP Pro x64 on the Sentia m3450

I want to install Windows XP Pro x64 on my Sentia, but I saw Alienware doesn't have the 64bit drivers available on their site. I know the Intel 945GM chipset and the Core 2 Duo processor support 64bit, but does anyone know if 64bit drivers are available for everything else? Like the touchpad, ect?

If it's going to be an issue I'll just go with the regular Pro.

Have you used windows x64 much on another system? Was wondering about the bugs in it and if you notice any speed difference.

I have.

AW will probably never support 64 bit drivers for your model.
The best you can do is get drivers from another company that uses the same ODM design, and has 64 bit drivers. I currently use a dell wireless nic driver b/c AW never updated theresto use wpa.

This is not an easy task, and will be frought with headaches.
If I was you I get the free 64bit RC1of Vista instead. (Loads of included drivers!!!!)

In my experience, XP64 running 64 bit drivers and software was indeed snappier! and no real bugs.
But simply there are 2 "Program Files" folders for 32 and 64 bit apps that was problematic!
And user/admin account is significantly changed.

Well, I just got my sentia today and have just finished loading up windows x64. There were only two drivers that took me a while to find and that was the bison webcam and the ti card reader/express. Other than that the audio, ethernet, intel graphics/wan/chipset drivers were easy to find on the manufacturer's websites. If anyone is interested, I'll post where I found all the drivers later on tomorrow (have to get some sleep....got to work in 5hrs).

Isn't there windows vista 64 bits available ?

I guess it should included updated drivers.

Here's the link. I have included the drivers that windows doesn't recognize. The audio driver will load, but will have to be updated via windows update. I think after windows loads the updated driver, then the modem can be installed. There is also an antivirus program (the only x64 that I know of right now).

After a 5 hour download I have my copy of RC2 32-bit, going to give it a whirl. What do you think of Arch? Do you have the 32 or 64 bit?
I dl'ed both in 2-1/2 hours (total) haha

I have tried 64, but driver issues were problems.
Motherboard and vid card were difficult but sorted out, sound was an issue
Big prob was printer/scanner have NO drivers....doh
And the way x64 splits the program files dir. is a hassle.
So Ive been using the 32 bit, but will switch to 64 when more drivers are available.

I like it alot though.

I downloaded both and burned them, took about 5 hours to download them over my wireless. Going to install the 32-bit now and give it a whirl. I didn't think Vista was going to be anything speical, but after reading a bit more on a few features it actually sounds nice. Anxious to check it out.

vista is quite nice and i have noticed that 64bit xp runs faster and i have tried 64bit vista as well also nice....vista is a good OS but there is a learning curve as it seems like they tried to dumb it down a bit for the regular user but made it a little more difficult for the more advanced users.
