Is it the 5550 or 5500? Does your memory use 667 ddr2?

there is no 5500 laptop. You mean the 5550. Try this ram, cheap and fast:

I'm not a big fan of ocz. I'd go for corsair, patriot, or kingston.

i remember when i was upgrading ram for a desktop. I was into overclocking back then, and wanted to go for a higher-end (ie: expensive) ram. OCZ was popular at the time, so I went with them. lo and behold, I started having random blue screens after a month or two. I finally tracked it down to the ram. I'm not going to try them again in the future.

I just bought some ram from newegg for my m9700 (Crucial)...it just popped right in, and the notebook is noticeably quicker (no more having to page to the swap file as often now)

ocz is bad for for the desktop version of the core 2 duo...

And that's if you don't set your clock timings correct, since the timings are automatically set wrong...

OP, when you get the ram, set the ram voltage correctly or you may see problems.

Although, the merom is a bit different from the normal core 2 duo, thers probably no problem at all. But it's an overblown problem that people don't understand when they simply should set their memory timings.
