CD movie problems

i have the inspiron 640m notebook with an
Internal 8x dvd+/-rw combination drive with dual layer

I burn a movie that ive downloaded to a cd (For example in this case its an .avi video file) and then try to play the cd and it never works?
the media player and the folder that the file is in just freezes..
can anyone help?
does anyone else have this problem?

got all the latest updates from xp? including directx?

hmmm i cant say im to sure of that.
how do i update xp?
wuld the direct x update automatically come with the xp update?

u should have an option under ur start menu for windows update, click and just follow the instruction

yeh i thought it would be in the start menu to, but its not?!?!
is there a manual way to do it?

run IE, under Tools, should have Windows Update option

but it says there are no windows updates for me..

updated my directx....still have the same problem...

just a suggestion, - would u install VLC and test it out with ur cd (avi) files? it is free and no spam/spyware involved

for me windows media player was notorious for being buggy. try vlc, video lan. works just about everything

hehehe yeh i already tried it with windows media and vlc.
but its not only when i try to play the movies its also even if i try to copy them to the HDD...

Wait so your saying that the file will not play thru the CD or the HDD?

the file, once downloaded plays on the HDD.
BUT
as soon as i copy the file to cd, and THEN try to play the file or copy it back to the HDD, it wont let me.
It just freezes
get me?

hehe thats wot i thought at first to.
but then i tried it on another computer...and it worked fine..

i kno this is a pain in the ass....sorry

nah, it is a challenge - so what about:
. how did u copy the file?
. using what software?
. ur burn/copy options?
. on what medium?
. did u verify the content after burning/copying?

can u run neroInfo to see the spec of ur optical drive? like what medium it is supporting etc ...
