Why should I reorder the XPS instead of the Sager 8790

Maybe you Dellers can help me. The facts:
1) Ordered XPS Feb 13th. (3.4 Ghz, 1 GM mem, 60 GB hd, extra battery, etc.)
2) Order never left pre-production
3) Sent emails to check that everything was OK
4) Called Dell yesterday and was assured everything was just fine
5) Got a call from Dell this afternon that my order wasn't entered properly and had been cancelled and I would need to start over with a new order.

Other than the screen resolution and "future update", why shouldn't I order the Sager 8790-C instead and have the 9700 card with 256 mb and 2 60 gig drives instead of 1 drive?

I'm really struggling with what to do.

Thanks

if you wanna save money go with sager. I don't see the point of getting the XPS when there are cheaper and better laptops out there.

I ordered on 2/18, it looks like it will be delivered tommorrow from my tracking #. If you feel you need 2 drives and the added weight in a laptop then sager may not be a bad choice. Myself, I went out today and bought an external drive that will suit my needs. 60GB is plenty for when I am on the road. If you do decide on sager, I would recommend www.pctorque.com They run this forum and you may save a few bucks

This system was to be a present to myself for being good this year (for me, being good for 2 whole months is quite a feat). It was be used for lan party gaming, hotel room gaming, and video editing/dvd burning on the road. So more fast drive space would have been nice. I was hoping to have something in time for my clan's quartlery lan party next weekend.
I am just so disappointed in Dell for stringing me along for so long and incorrectly verifying that the order was fine. What assurances do I have that my order would not get cancelled again after waiting another 2-3 weeks?

This is the last PPP from me, but i do still need to decide beween giving Dell another chance or going to Sager.

I tried a 5680 (bad pixels and gpu) and then a 4780 that had a large white stuck pixel. With xps I get high res screen, better warranty (2 yr at home) and upgadeable graphics. Performance will be very similar to 8790 and the price is comparable--those reasons are enough for me. Good luck with your choice.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I originally had ordered a Sager 8890, but the 16" screens were on back-order. After 5 weeks, I had to cancel because I needed something right away. (PCTorque were very good about it and issued a refund immediately...they are great to deal with) Ended up at the Dell kiosk around me and they gave me their 8500 that they had on display to use while I was waiting. Kudos to Dell. Just yesterday, after me pestering them because mine got stuck in pre-production like yours, they finally noticed. I am still really pyssed at them for this, but they were good to give me a loaner. I'm going to see how they handle it now. I'm not in the dire need of a lappy as I was, so if they phuck it up again, I'm going back to PCT. The biggest problem with Sager for me is that I'm in Canada, and shipping it to them for any work adds to cost. The folks here at Dell gave me 4 year at-home with completecare for a song. That's why I'm giving them a second chance.

They do seem to be shipping pretty fast now since the initial release is done. Check this thread for details.

Hope this helps. Unfortunately, I really don't know much about Sager.
Good Luck

I was looking at Sagers since December but ultimately decided to go with Dell because of the warranty. I live in Canada, so shipping the laptop to Sager for repairs would take time, and I absolutely cannot be without a computer for an extended period of time (and by that I mean more than a day).

Otherwise, I'd probably buy a Sager.

Give Dell a call again and tell them that you were unpleased with what happened and was wondering if there was anything they can do to expedite a new order. If they have good customer service then they should go out of thier way to get you one ASAP.

If they can't go "over and above" to help you out then go with Sager.

That's what I would do.

Geed,

I took your advice. Dell explained to me that when I ordered my XPS online on the 13th, it was just a pre-order. Like pre-ordering a video game before it comes out and just getting the box. Somehow, these "pre-orders" didn't get into the regular order system and it took over 2 weeks for the customer service personnel to be informed of the problem. To compensate for being inadvertently misled by the Dell personnel I had talked with, they gave me a 5% discount and a promise to try to get me the XPS I ordered soon.

Thanks everyone for their advice.

Get an inspiron 9100 its far cheapr than a sager alternative and pretty much the same as the xps sans the video upgrade and fancy face plate

i think you definately could have gotten more than 5% off.

The Sager in my opinion has too many thigns I"ll never use, like the webcam and tv tuner. and plus, if you want a laptop to carry around, the 17" ARE HEAVY, I bought the Toshiba 17" and I had to lug that thing around school man, after the frist week, I returned it cause I had back pains man. But its up to u, the XPS I configured came out cheaper than the Sager
