I/O error message

I have a sony vaio sz110. When I put a dvd Music cd, my Dvd/cd unit will not read either one of the disk. when i click on my computer icon, my dvd/cd shows that it is there. When I go into my device manger, the message states that this device is working property. Can someone help?

r these dvd, cd music commercial? or self-burning (could be medium incompatibility)?
can u read the disks contents in file manager?

= bad disk (99% of the time) tried the disk on other machine? cheers ...
