Nice! 2 GBs and the A/V package.

Yeah, the only changes I'd have liked are a bigger hard drive and the larger battery, but this is quite sufficient, and I was really, really tired of refreshing that search page! hehe.

Hey Granite! Contrats man, looks like you got a smoking deal!

In other news I missed the UPS guy today when he tried to deliver my wife's M1210. I had to go to work at 3 PM and he came at 4. Hopefully I'll catch him tomorrow. The best news however is that my M1710 shipped tonight and is scheduled for delivery on Monday! I'll post back with updates tomorrow assuming I get the M1210.

Hope you get it today, man. Luckily for me, I can have it delivered here at work, so I won't miss it!
I'm still waiting on my shipping info, but it shows that it's going out today with a delivery estimate between next Wed and Fri. I'm hoping for the Wed since my M170 came fairly quickly when I ordered it last year, once it hit the States. I'm looking forward to what you guys think of your 1210's when they show up.

1gig of ram
7400 go
dvd burner
3945 wireless

60 gig harddrive

no webcam but thats the way i wanted it.
all for 870 and change

The UPS delivery truck pulled up as I was literally locking my house up to leave for work. I didn't get a chance to peak at it, but I'm sure my wife will appreciate that she will be the one to unbox her system. I will however post my initial impressions of the system tonight when I get home.
Nice setup for a heck of a price dlx! Mine doesn't have the bluetooth. I need to look into the possibility of getting that separately, as I'll be needing it in the future.

Glad to hear your wife's system showed up accelerant. I hope it's as good as it sounds!

Well, my wife is completely smitten with the M1210. She gleefully refers to it as her "mini-puter". I am thinking that might have something to do with the fact that her desktop is a water-cooled, full-tower beast of a PC I built for her last year, but that is beside the point.

She was however dismayed at the sheer amount of crap Dell installs on the system. I've owned several Dells and even I was surprised by how much they bog the system down with bloatware. The system bar took up literally about 35-40% of the tiny screen and the computer probably took another minute and a half to boot after reaching the desktop. Naturally she insisted that I format it for her before she begins "moving in" and I really could not blame her despite the fact that I wasn't particularly in the mood to format. I had initially assumed I would let her use it for a couple weeks to test out the performance prior to a format so I could compare benchmarks post format. However, after the agonizing boot time I decided I might as well. I could have cleaned it up by uninstalling stuff and using msconfig... but why, I figured I would only be postponing the inevitable.

Sorry I didn't post last night but I was knee deep in the format. I am quite impressed with the screen. I have owned an XPS Gen 2 with the LG truelife screen and it seems almost quant to see the same screen in 12" form. I am still putting software on the system, but once I get some games on board I will give a better impression of the screen.

I'm glad you liked the screen, that is my greatest worry, that I'm getting a return from someone who couldn't stand the screen.

Dell hasn't provided me a tracking number yet, but I'm hoping it will arrive today anyways.

Glad to hear your wife is liking it so much. I don't have a tracking number either. Just a delivery estimate between Wed and Fri still.

I agree with you on the display situation ec. I haven't done the refurbished route before. Although I'm optimistic that I'll be very pleased.

Well, as of now I have both my wife's M1210 and my new M1710 up and running. My wife's M1210 developed an issue after I installed daemon-tools so I could use images I have to install games. (No I'm not a pirate, I just imaged a lot of my games because installing is faster and back-up purposes). After installing the SCSI pass-through service associated with D-Tools the system would finish loading windows and then the screen would just remain black. This occurred roughly 75% of the time and after safely powering down the system you would just have to keep trying again and eventually it would get into windows. I decided to format again since I am now formatting my new M1710 as well.

I am sure you will be glad to hear that the screen is great on the M1210... in fact its better than my M1710. See my other thread in the general section for more info on that.

Overall I have to say that the M1210 is a great little system and thus far the only hardware problem I have noticed is the design flaw that causes the black scratch band to appear below the Dell logo on the screen. Apparently this issue affects all M1210s so this is something that will plague us all.

Wow! Well, I disappeared in the last 24 hours, heh. It was delivered yesterday, and I spent all afternoon setting it up. As everyone has mentioned, the poor thing was loaded with crap, and it was running pretty slowly. I reformatted, without deleting that little 55 MB partition, of course, and am now running fresh, with MediaDirect working as well.

I like the screen, it does have a little light leakage (I notice it more when watching a DVD), but I'm ok with it. Doing standard email and internet, it looks perfect to me. I still haven't had to chance to install CS:S just yet.

Overall I'm extremely happy! This notebook may be the most satisfying balance of mobility and power yet.

I won a 9 cell battery for it on eBay, the only thing I need is a sleeve. I've seen a lot of them posted here, but I don't want to spend more than $20.
UPS tried do deliver mine this afternoon but my wife was out. I'll be home tomorrow, so hopefully they'll come by early with it. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to report back on it.

Glad to hear you're happy with yours as well ec! I need to grab a 9 cell battery sometime too. I ordered a RoadWired sleeve from eBags not too long ago. Seems like it'll do the job for me.

I received my M1210 yesterday. I have to say it's been outstanding all around. The device itself looks brand new. My screen is outstanding just like my previous M170, not a single dead or stuck pixel.

I, of course, immediately formatted and reinstalled with a clean copy of Windows. I also put Ubuntu on a separate partition. Everything has been perfect so far in both cases.

The 80GB hard drive is a bit small for my needs, but I'll upgrade that someday down the road. I also found bluetooth cards for a pretty good price on eBay, so I'll get one of those when the time comes.

EC, if you get a chance can you share you experience with buying a battery the 9 cell battery on eBay? I might go that route, especially if you're happy with yours.

Thanks again for this thread guys. Pointing this out allowed me to get WAY more computer than I had planned for the money I could spend.

My experience with the 9 cell battery has gone well so far. I got it yesterday, and ran that batteryinfo program against it, and I got back a 0% wear (my 6-cell from Dell had 1% wear). I haven't drained it all the way yet, but so far so good. I saved quite a bit of money going this route.

I can't post links to eBay, but here's the item number:

Sorry if I seem a little out of it... but what exactly is this outlet and how do I find it?

Thanks in advance
