The issue:
I have recently harvested a Broadcom BC94309WC (Wireless mini-pc card) from a dell laptop. Up until this point I have'nt had a built-in wireless function in the notebook.
The initial install went fine, installed in mini-pc slot, spring clips set properly and antenna wires succesfully attached.
So, next I went to reboot and entered F2 setup screen, went to advanced and was planning to enable the "Wireless LAN" setting at the bottom of the screen. Much to my dismay it was still grayed out as it has always been.
Upon this discovery I went back in to the lappy and checked connections etc. everything is connected properly.
In windows I cannot install the driver that I have for this model, and the windows hardware setup tool "Cannot Install Hardware". Upon manually installing the proper drivers the "wireless network tool" is loaded but cannot find any networks (my wireless router is enabled and sitting 5 feet from the lappy). The message in the "wireless network tool" is to "turn on the wireless switch" and "make sure the wi-fi card's radio is enabled". I do not expect that this message is actually the problem but I thought I would bounce it off of you guys and see if anyone here has gone through this process.
Now my question:
Does anyone know if there is in fact a "Wireless LAN" switch on the d870 motherboard?
Does anyone know if there are hidden advanced settings in the d870 BIOS that will allow me to enable "Wireless LAN" function?
I will take any general considerations or advice.
