Sound Upgrade for older toshiba

Thread Starter
Already searched and posted in Toshiba. Need some advice cuz I'm on learning curve. I have a Toshiba 2435-s255 and want to add a 5.1 speakers like I did on my desk top. The sound in the laptop is a realtek alc202 codec chip;sound chip 16 bit, windows sound system v2.0; sound blaster pro compatible(in dos box only);direct 3d sound (supported by sound driver). Have no idea what this means. Can I get 5.1 sound with a external sound card and 5.1 speakers ? If this is 2 channel output can a card make 5.1? I used the logitech 530 on the tower rig and am very pleased and would like to add them to laptop. Not big sound but just right for me...drowns out kids and wife. Appreciate input...Thanks

Your internal card has absolutely nothing to do with sound through an external card, unless it causes conflicts which shouldnt happen and can be fixed.

If you get a PCMCIA card or USB or Firewire sound card, the capabilities of that card will be what determine if you are able to do 5.1, 7.1 or 32.6(And whatever other crazed half baked things manufacturers try to call their systems nowadays, different rant there

Since i dont know the internal sound on your laptop, I cant answer that part of it sorry.
