orginal freq. go7900gs (inspiron 9400)

Thread Starter
im from sweden so have mercy with my english.
wondering why go7900gs is clocked & locked at 375/500mhz (20 Pixelpipelines & 7 Vertexpipelines)
WHEN go7800 is clocked & locked at 400/550mhz (16 Pixelpipelines & 6 Vertexpipelines) ? WHY WHY WHY ! go7900gs should be clocked at least the same like go7800, somebody know why.
can it maybe be that go7900gs has 4 Pixelpipelines (plus 1 Vertexpipelines) more then go7800, and that Nvidia thought that the card didnt need higher freq. or can it be something else. ive heard that you can OC go7900gs very high with good temp, so it should work at ex 450/550, or ?
one last thing, must i flash VBIOS to OC go7900gs, and can i flash the VBIOS back to orginal, if i want ?

I guess just no reason for a higher clock, or for some reason nvidia thought that was the max safe speed on 1 volt.

I ran my 7900gs at 480/600 with out overvolting. ATItool showed some artifacting, but games ran for hours rock solid. You must flash the bios for it to work. I personally would not overvolt the card if its a single heat pipe, due to too much heat. With overvolting you should be able to acheive over 600 on both core and memory. I would not recommend over volting on a single pipe card.

Sorry if something sounds too obvious, I come from desktop pcs and never opened a laptop Is the 7900GS cooled with heatpipes like the PCI-E 7900GTX?

Also, could you share the link for the BIOS you're using? Is it the 23 June 2006 on mkvtech.net?

Man I can't wait for my 9400, hope it gets here soon!

Thanks!

Go there for how to OC. The 7900 GS in the e1705 has a single heat pipe, the 7900 GS in the m1710, and the 7900 GTX both have dual pipe heat syncs. The extra pipe is because the GTX runs at 1.24 volts, and im not sure why the GS in the m1710 has the dual, but the dual pipe heat syncs can be heavily over clocked and volt modded. I would not recommend volt modding a single pipe card. It will get way too hot. The heat pipe just leads to a condensor and a fan, probably nothing as intricate as a desktop version.
