7330GZ: Internet/Network Connectivity Issues

Before I begin, let me just inform you that I have a somewhat limited knowledge about computers.

What happened: Yesterday the internet was working fine. I was able to connect to linksys at home and the wireless network at my school without a problem.

Now today the internet is not working at all. The wireless detects several networks, I can connect to them, but I cant use any internet based applications.

What I tried: I did some searching on google and asked this other forum that i frequent.

1. I went to device manager and noticed there wasnt a tab for Network Adapters. Rather all the items that would normally be under there were under the Unknown tab.

The items Broadcom Wireless 802.11g Packet Scheduler Miniport and WAN (IP) Packet Scheduler Miniport had the famous (!) next to it. I tried updating and doing a rollback for those drivers before uninstalling them

2. Thinking that there might have been some spyware that could have caused the drivers to go bad, I ran Norton Antivirus and Ad-Aware, followed by a System Restore to 2 weeks ago.

3. After doing that, I still had the same problem only now I didnt see the 2 Packet Scheduler Miniports in my device manager. So I went to Gateway's website and downloaded the Broadcom Wireless Card driver. After installing the drivers, a different symbol appeared in my icon tray. It wasnt the traditional computer monitor, but a tower of some sort. I was unable to detect or connect to any networks at this point. So I did another system restore to get back to point A

At this point I dont know what to try and where to look for drivers. I was hoping someone had experienced something like this before. I should've got a mac

just a recap if i may:
. ur devices r now ok (meaning no "!" dingy)
so:
. have u done a hard reset on your router?
. try disable windows zero configuration service to see if any improvement
. get rid of ur norton, if u "want" and get urself another free-good firewall/virus scan
. verify ur connection wep/wap encryption, turn them off for testing purpose

oh, i do not personally feel that getting a mac would spare u this wifi connection issue, the mac world has its own wifi headache :-) , u know, kinda different type of pain

cheers ...
