What, exactly, does it, uhmmm, ...reset?
The computer. It bascially kills the power breifly then turns it back on so the computer is forced off then reboots.

...That's about as stupid as what you posted.
Be a help, or go away, postwhore.
I've come to the conclusion that the only people who use Linux over Windows (well, the ones that claim that its more stable/faster, not the ones who dont like XP's UI) are people who don't really know how to use a computer anyway. Their copy of XP gets loaded with spyware and viruses that they put on there since they don't know how to remove it, and claim that it's Microsoft's fault. Hell, if enough people used Linux, I can GUARENTEE there would be viruses and spyware targeting Linux. It's just that XP is the most popular OS, and therefor programmers write to target the largest section of a population.

Thats not a fair statement. I like using Linux over windows and I'm not at all inept at Windows. I believe Linux is more stable and faster. And there are a LOT of people like me out there.

My laptop is dual boot Ubuntu and XP. The windows install is completly clean and virus/spyware/etc. free. I have minimal processes running at idle, usually 26, thats including AVG virus scanner and Notebook Hardware Control. My linux install moves MUCH faster than the XP install. I've never had any linux crash on me, while XP has crashed on me many times.

Hell, my old desktop computer with linux on it has 256mb of RAM. That linux install is more responsive than the XP install on my laptop which has 1.5GB of RAM.

You are right that if enough people use linux there would be more virus' for it. They want their software to hit the most number of people posible. Since most people use XP thats what they write for. But the same holds true for the Mac OS or Solaris or any OS that would be used more than any other.

"The fanboyism clouds everything"

I don't use Linux because there are some programs that I *must* use, and they are not available for linux. I would like to have the ability to choose, but I don't. I have other complains, but those wouldn't keep me from using it.

Hense why I dual boot Best of both worlds

My comment was not meant to endorse any specific OS. It was meant to endorse being helpful.
When someone asks a question regarding a specific OS or program, it completely pisses me off to no end when some asshat offers up his two senseless cents by suggesting that the OP change his system and simply no use his chosen OS or program.
Examples are Firefox being suggested as a replacement in order to "fix" a particular problem someone is asking about regarding their Internet Explorer, and the list of free antivirus programs offered in the same manor when someone asks a question regarding their Norton AV.
Certainly there are better browsers, AVwares, and OSes, but there are plenty enough threads comparing them that I see no need for morons to turn every damn thread they can into some flamefest about what's better.
It's just so ****ing annoying!

hey, and you think what? that i never tried that? heheh... of course i did... but it's amazing how 60gb is becoming smaller these days... ah, and pskitty, my 'yoda comment' was meant to be exactly that, in case you didn't notice. i'm feeling a new - albeit small - wave of fanboyism here lately... compared to the sick amd vs. intel args that were common when I registered myself here.

Why is it that new laptops don't have reset buttons? My old Satellite 4030 had one!

BTW I use the 5 sec stuff also... lucky me I had to use it only once so far.
