Any way to transfer video from my 8mm camcorder to my computer?

I race karts and would like to start taping my races. So it doesnt have to be the most professional stuff ever just something that will get the job done. The sony camcorder has the video and audio L/R rca outputs. What do I have to get to hook that up to my laptop or desktop? Im totally lost on this since Ive never done anything like it before. And if it can be done what program should I do to do basic editing and maybe add music in the background, also will it allow me to add clips to sites like youtube and streetfire?
Thanks for any help. I really dont want to go out a fork over a bunch of cash on a new digital camcorder if I can help it.

A video capture card is what you would want. Since you are on windows you would want to look into something like Pinnacle, Premiere, etc. Depending on what features you want and how much you are willing to spend. Pinnacle comes with several Dazzle video capture interfaces so that may be the easiest way to start out, but to tell the truth I havent done ANY video on windows in such a while(Since I discovered Final Cut Pro) that I cant really speak for it well any more.

Would something along the lines of this work? Im not trying to win an award or anything but something that works good and gives a dect picture and sound.

Have you considered a stand alone DVD recorder?

Yep, that'll do more than fine.

You have a few options. The Pinnacle product will do fine, but you would be better off with something similar with Firewire (IEEE 1394). Another option would be to purchase a Sony Digital 8 camera. You can find these for relatively cheap, and the advantage of digital over analog is significant.

Yes a digital camcorder would be much easier but I didnt want to spend anymore then 150 bux on this little project. I dont think I can make it in that range with a digital camcorder.

You may be able to find a used one on eBay. Check this out.

All you need is a camcorder with the miniUSB hookup, buy a miniUSB to USB cable. If you have winxp then you have windows movie maker. That's all you need.

Goto your local Wal-mart and buy a cable like in the link.

If you have a friend with a Digital Camcorder, you can do an Analog Pass-Thru

Basically, you connect your 8mm camera to the Digital Camera via RCA cables, then connect the Digital camera to the computer via Firewire/USB....

The Digital camera will automagically convert the Analog signal from your 8mm camera to a Digital signal, then transfer it to the computer for digital capturing
