Physical ram?

So Im on hypersonic PCs website looking at the CX7 Duo when I noticed under ram, the last option is 4GB PC5300 DDR2-667 PHYSICAL RAM SO-DIMM (3GB under windows) what is physical ram? Im not sure I quite understand this option, I guess its just the way they have it highlighted thats making me wondering, does this have 4 DIMM slots? and since that its under memory one, and theres one on memory two, does that mean it can support 8GB? help!

I would have to guess that (based on the price) the option is for a single 4GB SODIMM. Theoretically you could put 8GB in the system; the problem is with Windows 32bit. 32 bit Windows only lets applications have access to 2.8 GB of physical memory (virtual memory or the swap file being the other kind or memory in Windows) I am not sure if the 64 bit version of Windows will install on a Core Duo. I think the support is there for the Core Duo, can some one else weigh in on this? Also, 32 bit Windows can only support 4 GB of physical RAM, beyond that a switch has to be enabled that allows Windows (only available in 2003 Server) to support more then 4 GB of RAM. With 8 GB of RAM in the 32 Bit version of Windows would show up as 2.8 GB for applications and 1.2 GB for the system, the rest would only be along for the ride

I am pretty sure that is a typo. It probably means that you can have 2 x 2GB memory for 4GB total since the CX7 has only 2 memory slots. That is why the price is so high. For example, on the EX7 you can get 4GB total as well but it has 4 memory slots (4 x 1GB) which is much more cost effective.

I was correct. After looking closer, it states the following about the memory:

This is a special package of ultra-high end memory. You get two 2GB modules that total 4GB of physical memory. However due to current motherboard and BIOS limitations your system will only display 3GB of total RAM.

This is similar to the EX7, but you have to pay a much larger amount for the 4GB since it only has 2 memory slots instead of 4 like the EX7.

Hope this helps.

this helps me alot, I want a system that can support at least 4 GB for future upgrades and what no, and since it now has Core 2 Duo, It can be upgraded to the 64 bit version of windows, thanks guys!
