I've just spent my first 24 hours with my new Asus A8Js H222H laptop and I made some benchs:

3DMark 03, 05, 06:

SiSoft Sandra 2007:

Cache and memory
Memory bandwidth
Memory latency
Physical disk read
Processor arithmetic
Processor mulimedia

Everything tested on a fresh installation and default settings.

Wow! It's in Spain already! I've been trying to find it here, but living in Italy is like living in a 3rd world country somethimes!

It's available in a few stores despite no A8 is on Asus' Spanish website nor in it's catalog for the next months. Maybe you can actually find it in Italy right now.

I'm desperate!!
I'm italian too and I would buy it in USA if someone could explain to me how much are import fees for laptop from USA to EU

Therefore I'm a little disappointed on Hard disk chosen by ASUS: only 5400rpm is a little slow in my opinion.

And finally the last question: how much does this great laptop cost in Spain?

Thanks

In the last few days I've been to several large computer stores in the Naples area, and the newest laptop that I saw was at least a year old. Maybe everyone is waiting for the new stuff to come out, so maybe I will see it soon...

I don't know about the fees since I have a U.S. address that gets mail to me here (I'm a civilian but I work for the military).

As for the hard drive: Anything faster than 5400 RPMs just generates more heat, uses more power, and will die faster...

i agree with you about the hard disk..i'm only envious about the a8js...it'll never reach italian market.

The ETA in Us market is the mid of October yet? I'll buy it there...

Have you actually used a 7200rpm drive in a notebook. I've had 3 7200rpm drives, in the notebooks i've owned over the years. All hitachi brand. I also have a 4200rpm hitachi and heatwise there is no difference between the 2. I tiny bit more noisy but so little you'd have to have 2 side by side to tell. As for battery life there is virtually no difference between the different speeds. At most maybe 10mins.

Used one, no. Had to replace them? All too often. Maybe I've just seen a run of bad drives, or you've been lucky...

Hi sire_alvar.

I've some questions about the A8JS.

What about the battery life? Some magazines reviewed the a8js and reported it was like 2h30.

Is this notebook comfortable? I mean, isn't it too hot because of the Geforce 7700? Is the fan always turn on or just sometimes.

Do you think the quality of this notebook is good?

Last question Is the screen and the screen resolution good or is it too small?

Thanks in advance.

(And sorry for my bad english )

I've only found some minor power management issues (I think they're Windows' faults) but I'm very happy overall with this machine, it's quality and performance. The only big problem I have is that I can't make my PS2 keyboard work via USB adaptor.

Maybe I could try later some FEAR and Oblivion benchs (I don't know if they have this function, though). I lent my Far Cry, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 discs several months ago I haven't seen them again

Oh please do fear and oblivion. Just tell me what settings your running at and what kind of Frames Per Second you are getting. For example "im running fear on all max settings and get an average of 60 fps" Just an example.
Thanks!!!
