Do Atheros cards pick up the IVs needed to crack a WEP?

Where can I get a card with an AR5006XS chipset? Only ones I can find on eBay are from Hong Kong and Germany.

Bought one of them yesterday, should hopefully be with me in a few days... The Gigabyte ones they sold looked a lot better than those unbranded ones from Hong Kong.

FWIW, I bought a couple of the AR5005 models a couple of months back, and have them in my Latitude D620 and E1705. I have to say, they give 5 bars signal strength in places that the Intel 3945 could only muster 2 or 3. Very happy with them.

Note that the WiFi light on your notebook may or may not work afterwords...

Mine doesn't work with the Intel 2915 card, usually goes off after a few minutes...

Yup, will do...

Please excuse my ignorance - but why do you need to 'WEP crack'?

I can find plenty of 'how to's but it all looks a bit 'grey' to me.

i need an atheros for my m90. any recommendations.

I bought the one from Germany back in August. Very trustworthy and came in quickly, about 6 days. Excellent performance. Im using it on a i9300. The wifi light works, it just flashes as with IO. So, if you are not transmitting anything...it stays off.

Germany? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Is that when someone of this forum was doing a group order for this set of cards?

So how do i get in touch with this German contact now?...

Nope, that is in response to what "OpticalIllusion" posted ...
"Only ones I can find on eBay are from Hong Kong and Germany."

However, if you search ebay for item # 200028728916 you can order from the same seller.

The card in that auction will not work with the E1705/XPS 1710. They use Mini PCIE cards. That's only good for the 915 chipset, ie 9300, M170

Obviously you've never tried to crack a WEP.

Do get the WEP key, you need to pick up IVs (Initialization Vector).

The original Intel card I have now will not pick them up.

Aww nuts. I was looking at getting this card for my E1705. Do we even have a Mini PCIE slot? If not, what type of slot does our wireless card use? Thanks

Yes, the E1705 has a mini PCIe slot, and you can get this card on ebay right now, from Germany. Look at ebay item #200030491111.

Good price from Germany. The Hong Kong seller wants $70 plus shipping...too much $$$.

I have an Atheros AR5005 card in my E1705, and it gives EXCELLENT signal strength (5 bars where I would have 2-3 with Intel 3945 or less with Dell 1390).

Good luck.

Atheros AR5006EX

PCDGlobal will sell the card. There's no link to order via web but just contact them (email) and they'll email you the info. I think it's around $60.

Part # WLL4080PCIX

I have this in my E1705.
