Z92T Crashing problem

So does anybody out there have any idea what it means if one has random crashing (computer works fine, but out of nowhere it just freezes randomly, could take 5 hours, could take 10 minutes, just curious as to what would cause that kind of thing)

I have a Z92t if that helps.

ran memtest?
defrag?
what antivirus software r u using?

Sorry ive been so vague. I have two identical corsair sticks (they were not a mated pair though). If I try to run memtest 86 it just freaks out and restarts the computer (in single or dual channel mode), if I try the windows memtest, it passes all the tests, I will usually get a freeze when the system is under stress.

I am not using any antivirus.

And when I say freeze, I mean freeze, everything freezes, mouse cursor, everything, not just the program.

If I take one of the modules out, the computer doesnt freeze anymore. or to be more specific, when I take it out of the RIGHT slot it doesnt freeze anymore, even when i switch the modules. So my diagnosis tends to point in the direction of memory, I would say the slot, but before I had my laptop RMAd for a bad bios, it did the same thing (although not as often). So I must conclude its the memory, dual channel definately makes it worse.

What im guessing is that I just happened to pick the exact wrong hardware that doesnt to be with eachother (which ive had happen once or twice).

The exact memory im using is this:

the ram specs looks correct! u mentioned that only the right slot is causing issue, and since u r using the same type of ram for both slots, would it be safe to say that it is a hardware issue?
have u tried the latest amd processor driver? and the chipset driver? - i would give these a shot and see. i also take it that u have the latest bios version.

I do have the latest bios version, ok, now what its doing is when I have the ram in one slot it freezes less but it still freezes, and now im getting graphical corruption at the top of the screen (tiny colorful dots, looks like dead pixels, but alot of them) but only when it freezes. Ah, I feel like im gonna explode here, usually I can nail down the problem quickly but this is something I am at a loss of words for. And keep in mind it did this before I RMAd it, and they replaced the motherboard, so I seriously have run out of ideas...

Also, id like to mention that the same exact thing happens whether I use my VISTA rc1, or my XP, I think its hardware, but im completely out of ideas.

Also, its never frozen in a game before, it freezes often during videos (divx) and when im playing music in itunes. If i dont do those two things, it takes a long time to freeze, but it still does. I know this is a retarded explanation, but I am completely out of ideas.

I just updated the chipset driver and cpu driver to the latest versions, and I have not had any problems yet, but im not holding my breath, the problem is random, completely random, which is something that really gets under my skin.

Oh, and thank you for trying to help me out ^_^

It takes longer but it still freezes. And again, when it freezes I get graphical corruption at the top of the screen. Does the Z92T have a removable graphics card on the main board, or is it soldered on?

I have seriously run out of ideas, It freezes no matter which piece of memory I use...I have seriously...run out of ideas, and before when I RMA'd it, it did the same thing, I thouight the mobo replacement would fix the problem, obviously I was wrong.

Any other thoughts?

ouch -
well u have a GEForce gpu, if i remember it correctly, these can be replaced
or the CPU - heck, what else left is there?

cheers ...

Is there any good CPU diagnostic tools? I have been trying to find one but have been unable to.

Also I have another theory. Is the 7600 on this thing MXM or removable in any way? Because if I had the problem before my motherboard was replaced they might have taken the videocard out and put it in the new motherboard. I dunno, Ive completely run out of ideas like you wouldnt believe hehehe. Also, would a corrupt videocard cause the whole system to freeze? I dont think it would, its been my experience that they just crash when you try to do something stressful but you can still get out of the program.

I dunno, im ripping out my hair here....

Systool and Sisoft r 2 of the few performance & tweaking tool out there
i read somewhere that u can use DXDiag to kinda test ur gpu
i tend to agree with u that it is not ur gpu, but ur it is ur cpu that is causing the problem
it is ok and dandy to say these things, but boiling down to it, u r the one that would be spending $ to test, i wish that i can be much more specific

cheers ...

Well, I tried all the diagnostics and everything checks out fine. Im just going to sell all the parts seperately and start from scratch, maybe an s96j or something, too bad too, this laptop was perfect for me...

ditto

I have been reading about your problem and I wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I have the same ASUS Z92T but I have 2x 1gig 667 sticks of corsair memory in my machine. I would say that our problems are almost identical.

I can play my games without a hitch unless I play some background music. When I play divx movies or mp3 music the computer crashes within about 30 minutes. When I just browse the internet or whatever it mostly crashes within about 4 hours.

I have had just about everything replaced on the computer. I have replaced the DVD drive, the memory, different windows disks and versions, and of course a completely new unit. I have had some luck by replacing the memory with 2x 512mb 533 hynex memory sticks. The computer is a lot less likely to crash when I use those.

I have been working with powernotebooks.com in order to fix the issue but so far they have no clue. I am tempted to say that it is an ASUS problem but I really can not say for sure.

I am pretty much at my maximum frustration level. I have been trying to fix this thing since the end of August. I have tried every driver update there is and still no luck. If I reformat and reinstall windows there is absolutely no difference. I hope someone out there has a fix for this because all I really have is a big heavy paper-weight.

Have you guys try BIOS version 0601?

bios flash

Alright, I just flashed the bios. I am going to keep my fingers crossed because it has been five weeks of non-stop crashing. I was beginning to get irritated and if this fixes it maybe my blood pressure will drop. =)

I think it will fix it, read this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread175843.html

sorry to burst your bubble, but I did upgrade the bios about 2 weeks ago, same problem. Taking the memory out of dual channel helped a little bit for me. Not sure why, but both sticks of memory test fine in other computers. This problem essentially makes no sense whatsoever. Ive had my unit replaced twice and it still does the same thing, and all my parts test fine in other computers, so really ive ran out of ideas, I really am thinking wrong combo of parts...thats all thats left really. Also this bothers me especially because its my job to repair computers for a living (technician).

I repeat, updating the bios doesnt work, I just have a pretty asus logo now, but still crashing heheh. I tried the modified nvidia drivers and then I tried the default ones, with the same result. However, if all the hardware tests out fine, it could be a driver conflict...considering there are about 16 drivers on this thing...and some drivers are poorly made, it could be what it is, but...not certain

Also, I have the vista RC1, does the exact same thing in that. and im having the same problem as in2tactics, it freezes quick during video, takes a long time for web surfing, and doesnt freeze during games (wierd symptoms huh?)

And when I say crash, I mean...MEGACRASH, mouse curser not working and last .2 seconds of audio repeating over and over and over again kinda crash.
mine was solved..i too had a similar problem...on the day I got the laptop, there were more than 20 crashes ...the screen would just freeze...but i had nvidia corrupt driver problem also. I could not go to the nvidia panel at all...once I flashed the bios through winflash, i restarted it, went to the bios and saved the settings..I then upgraded to 92.91 forceware drives (from guru3d) manually. I haven't had a single crash for last 2 days. I have run some CPU intensive tasks like video ripping, video conversion without any problems.

but i have new problems like heat

still a problem

I flashed the bios and I am still having the problem. I now get that cool ASUS logo on startup but woohoo that does not help me.

Despite the fact that it sucks, I am glad to hear I am not the only person having this problem. I sympathize with killbot because I used to be a technician as well and this problem is quite irritating.

Again like killbot, I have also tried vista rc1 with no luck. Oh and about that MEGACRASH, I have that too. I have come to hate that sound when it repeats over and over and over.

I think I will try updating the nvidia drivers to 92.91 like askids did and see if that works. However, I am pretty sure that I already tried that and every other driver version with no luck on previous windows installs.

I talked to the guys where I bought the unit from and it looks like they want me to send the whole unit back, again. I really hate to send it back because this is the second unit that I have received. The first one had all of the same problems and then some. I am going to try to resolve this over the weekend and if it still does not work I think I will let them figure it out (if they can). Maybe they will give me a refund for my troubles or credit at the very least.

fixed I hope

I downloaded and installed the nvidia 92.91 drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and I have not yet encountered any problems. I did try using them previously with no luck but since then I have updated my bios to 0601. I hope this fixes the problem. I am going to test it for a few more hours and hopefully when I am done I can report that everything is okay.
i am back to crashing days ...same problem...system freezes randomly...this has already happened 8 times today...i will try to look for resolution for next couple of days, else I will RMA back the unit.
