God bless it, this laptop is awesome. . . when it doesn't freeze up. I have had it since Friday and it locks freezes regularly. I read the above replies to this post and done everything, including beta bios update 701 G. It has not froze up yet. I will keep you posted on the status as I am sure everyone will with the new BIOS update.

Thanks KEN you are the man.

I am a technician too and this is really starting to chap my hide.

Z92T and A6T are the same notebook, the BIOS works for both model.

Going on 24 hours with no freezes with the 701G Beta Bios Upgrade. Its looking good for the time being.

The A6T is the Asus model that is pre-built by Asus, the Z92T is the "white book" version that is either bought Barebones and built by the end user or custom ordered through a reseller.

If you want the most current Drivers from the ASUS website look for the A6T drivers since the download page for the Z92T drivers is blank. They are the same drivers.

The 701 Bios is not available for download from Asus yet (the 601 is the most current posted for download). When you install it the Asus logo from the 601 version is not present any more (hopefully when the final non-beta version of 701 or newer is released the Logo is put back into the mix).

Granted, this notebook was released in Jun 2006 and will normally have some teething issues.
None the less random freezes that cannot be fixed by the end user are still frustrating.

My specs:

Z92T
Turion TL-50 Dual Core CPU
2 GB Corsair DDR2 667 RAM (2x1GB)
Nvidia Driver 8.4.6.6
Bios Version 701 G Beta

I hope that asus release the 701G bios soon, im afraid to use the beta. :P

*Sigh* I am having the same issues with this notebook too. I just bought it a couple of days ago and tried that bios update and reinstalling windows twice and removing the USB controllers (they just reinstall themselves...) and running CPU_HOTFIX from the cd.

The blue screen of death I keep getting refers to "bugcode_usb" so I think its some driver issue.

Also once in a while windows explorer or some other critical process by windows is killed, refering to Data Execution Prevention. I don't know if it is related to the BSOD or not.

Finally I know its not the CPU or memory, I let memtest run for a long (at least 12hrs) time. No errors. I hope someone else has some suggestions, it has been very fustrating to get this running. Once I run out of ideas I am going to install linux (either Ubuntu or Fedora core 6) if it keeps happening.

I'm having the same problems on my Z92T. When running with my two 1GB Kingston 667mhz ram sticks it keeps locking up and throw crc errors during installs. When using the provided 1GB 667mhz it doesn't have these problems. I've tried both the 0601 and the 0701 beta bios and there's no major difference. Heavy testing with memtest86 doesn't show any problems.

Hey all -

I too have been having issues since I got the laptop this summer. I have gone through several OS installs, BIOS updates, driver reinstalls, etc. It seems my main problem has been related to USB devices, but I have also had freezes from Ghost 10, video games, printing to USB printers. I finally read reviews that Ghost 10 sucks, so good chance that was one of the culprits, and I have downgraded to Ghost 2003.

CHECK OUT THIS MicroSoft KB kb924441 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924441 (A Windows Server 2003-based or Windows XP-based computer that is using an AMD PowerNow! driver stops responding) Sound familiar? I got this hotfix and things seemed better, but I still get some issues. Looks like there may be an issue with the PowerNow! driver?????

I've still had some freezes and usb bugcode bsods (usbohci.sys), but it may be worth it to check out and keep an eye out.

Regards,
Chuck

problem identifyed for A6T

The problem has been identifyed by asus, and Gentech pc has also deemed this the cause, Its the ram.

the only ram that is supported by asus and that works with this model is infenion and nanya ram modules

I just thought everyone should know
Have you spoken to Asus directly? Do you have somekind of source?
I spoke directly to ken from GentchPC, who spoken directly to Asus,

i bought the infeinon ram from him, i Recived it to day, played music, video all at once, left it for awhile, no crahes yet, its only been about 10 hours now but its looking good.
i been having some very anoying game crashes, age of empires 3 and day of defeat source. Do you think the ram could be cuasing it?

turion x2-60 and 2gb of corshair 667mhz
My z92t hasnt had random reboots though.
i have been having the freezing up , the bluescreens, and some random restarting.

According to Ken who spoke to Asus, they said cosair will not work on this notebook.

So far its been almost 2 days no crashes, (ive had most of my crashes while useing multimedia, video playback, audio playback) and nothing yet,

I am running openSuSE 10.2 Linux , Windows Vista 64, Windows XP 32

i spend most of my time on vista, and so dar not a single crash yet with the new ram.

It sucks to think to buy the ram, but if u bought it from a dealer, they will/should give u replacement ram modules.

You can send back the Corsair and we will swap the Infineon RAM, we've been swap RAM for all Z92T owners to Infineon if they purchased RAM from us.
Hey everyone, the problem with the crashing is the RAM. I had Corsair RAM which evidently is on the Asus incompatible list as well as Kingston. I now have Infineon ram and have been running it for over a month with no freezes or crashes. Asus certifies this laptop with this brand of RAM. Ken Lee is absolutely great and if you don't at least talk with him at GenTech before buying your laptop somewhere else then you are doing yourself a severe injustice. He worked with Asus on the cause of the crashes and came up with a solution. Tech Support was outstanding, I mean how many companies have their tech support actually proactively call you at home versus you calling them on an extremely frustrating issue. This Laptop kicks butt. I am an extremely happy user of this fine Asus product and have Ken Lee to thank for it.

Now if I could only figure out how to get the cool Asus logo back during POST from the 601 Bios since I updated to the 701 Beta Bios and it does not have the logo and I cannot rollback to the 601 version ???

Asus Z92T: Ordered from GenTech
15.4" Laptop (1280x800)
Turion X2 TL-50
2 Gigs of Infineon RAM @ 667mhz
Hitachi 100gb HDD at 7200 RPM
Nvidia go 7600

I guess the Micron RAM chipset was at fault then (both Corsair & Kingston use Micron RAM chipsets)

Hi,
Try download 0601 BIOS here.

-Unzip the BIOS and rename it to A6T.ROM
-Burn into CD
-Restart the computer and at the very first screen press F4
-Flash BIOS from there

Let me know if it doesn't work I'll make a bootable CD tomorrow, but I think you should stick with 0701 because according to Asus that it fix video RAM problem.

Yes and I want add something more, the Kingston also uses Infineon, Elpida, Nanya, and non of them works even the RAM chiset is Infinoen on Kingston, the Elpida on Kingston is the worst, it doesn't even boot up, no screen at all, but the original Elpida at least boots up the laptop.

Thanks for the info. It worked great, if I have problems with the video RAM I will switch back but I think my freezing problems were entirely RAM related I just ran 3DMark06 and I got the same score as I did with the 701 Beta Bios = 2,182 plus I get my cool Asus logo at POST.
