Dell Inspiron 640m, Battery problem, Is dell cheating us?

I bought a dell inspiron 640m a month ago, and I find that the Capacity printed on 9-cell battery is 85Wh, but when I using Self-Test CD to boot up and get the battery Information, it told me the battery is only 78Wh (78000mWh), and Actural Capacity from Notebook Hardware Control is only 77323mWh...........

that mean:
Designed Capacity printed on battery: 85Wh(85000mWh)
Designed Capacity from Dell Self-test CD: 78Wh(78000mWh)
Designed Capacity from NHC: 86Wh(86580mWh)
Full Capacity from NHC: 77323mWh

Designed Capacity from SMBIOS: 7800x10=78Wh(78000mWh)

Is dell cheating me/us???

How old is your battery? Those utilities are going to report fewer Wh as the battery gets older I would presume. The 9 cell in my D820 shows at having a full capacity of 84Wh with only 2% wear on it.

I get this information when the machine just arrive......
I interesting in the "Designed Capacity" from DELL self-test CD is show that only 78000mWh(78Wh)......

also, any brothers that using 640m can try the software "SMBIOS" Type 22 to see the information?

I have two 80whr batteries for my i6000d that are both just about a year old. Usage has been sparing for one and heavier for the other. However, both are showing 49% wear now. It's been just over a year so there's no more warranty. As far as I remember, the wear was abnormally high after the first month at around 25% if I recall correctly but I was stupid and didn't do anything about it. When I first got the laptop, I was able to get around 4.5-5.5 hours. Now I've been getting around 2-2.5 under the same usage conditions.

Think the recalibration posted in the other thread will be of any use? It's only charging to around 40whr now

edit: most of the time, it'll charge up to 99% and hang there forever as well if that's related to anything


also, I should note that one of the batteries has been through around 20 cycles and the other well over 100. And yet both are showing roughing around 50% wear. One's at 47 and ones at 49. And the thing is that the one that's been through 20 cycles is 49 and the one 100 47.

You guys all got a self test cd? i never even heard of it when i bought my 640m 3 months ago!
