Unknown Device "Base System Device" Inspiron 9400

So, I got my new Inspiron 9400 and the first thing I did was erase XP Home and install XP Pro. After installing all of the known drivers (and after having difficulty figuring out the Sound Blaster drivers) I now have 3 unknown devices, all labeled "Base System Device". I guess it is one device, located on PCI bus 3, device 1. Each item is a different function. (function 1, function 2, etc.) Does anyone have any idea what these are and what drivers I should download?

Thanks,
Bill

More than likely, it's for the SD card reader. Just to to dell.com and download the Ricoh drivers for the card reader. Also, did you download and install the Intel Chipset drivers?

I actually thought it might be the Ricoh driver but I wasn't sure what that was for. And yes, I did install the chipset drivers. Thanks for your help!

This is the kind of problem I run into at work all the time. Hardware that's so new bumps up against software (WinXP) that's so old.

Try going to http://www.gtopala.com/ and downloading the System Information for Windows application. It doesn't have to be installed. It's just an executable that runs by itself. It may give you an idea of what's missing. You might have to compare what's recognized in System Info against what's recognized in Device Mgr. The application may already know the hardware, yet Windows doesn't.

These functions could easily be just features of the audio or video system.

It "bumps" against RC1 Build 5728 of Vista as well, not just XP; I have the same issue. I could just be because I haven't tried to use that yet.
