Choices choices...

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i recently found this forum and am very happy with what i see so far. But now it is time for me to pose a question.

I am stuck between choosing the Area51-m5750 or the Aurora-m9700. Both would be pretty maxed out for gaming purposes and what not, but i am a bit touchy on the choice. Could you guys post back with some pros / cons of each, or even just your personal thoughts?

Thanks a bunch,

Just received a pretty maxed out m5750, if your primary focus is a game system - the m9700 would be a better choice. I do little game activity, but lots of large spreadsheets, database, and photo activities, thus my choice of a Core2 Duo system that does not currently support dual graphic cards like AMD processor system do. Either system would be a great choice. I'mvery much impressed with the build quality and performance of mine.

The 5750 is a slim case design, and is designed to be more mobile for business and students while still allowing decent game performance.

The m9700 is a bit bigger and heavier, but it's designed principally as a gaming system but also does everything else very well.

I understand the m5750 with an x1800 will return about 5000 in 3dMark05, a single 7900gs in the m9700 will return about 6300 stock, and the dual card m9700 will get around 9700-9800 in 3dMark05.

If you plan to game mostly, I'd advise the m9700 either with the single or dual 7900gs setup.

If you'll be carrying the system with you and you'll be doing mostly business applications, and gaming on occasion, I'd go with the 5750.

Sounds like the m9700 would be a better choice for you.

Once intel gets the core 2 duo supporting SLI, it looks like an intel laptop with SLI may be the way to go, but then again AMD is coming out with the turion 64 X2 dual core also...

Can't wait to see what they'll be doing in a year or so, but right now the m9700 is the system to own as far as I'm concerned...

hammer is right... having used the older model of the 5750 (the 5700) i can say its beautiful and nice but it is meant for those in business or school who will be gaming on occasion as opposed to all the time. its a nice machine and will do well still but it isnt as powerful so remember that.

That's the problem that is haunting me at the moment. The choice between those two. While I do game from time to time my main interest is audio editing and software development.

Have you looked at an MJ-12 7700? They're more expensive, but it's the way to go for editing and software dev. The Aurora offers dual core AMD desktop processors and the 7900gtx or the quadro line also.

The m9700 has more graphics capability than the 5750 but it has a single core processor. It's very capable, but it isn't dual core for multi threaded apps.

The 5750 is dual core for apps, and it has decent gaming also, so I guess it depends on how much you want one over the other...

Good luck with your decision...

Yeah I saw the MJ-12. That's another one I'm having a problem deciding on. Arghh. Actually it's good frustration, that way when I do decide on which one, I'll be happy with it.
