Hi guys,

Been using ZoneAlarm Internet Security to protect my computer but I've noticed that my computer takes very long time to start up when this is installed so what program do you guys prefer? Macafee, Norton's?

Thanks in advanced

I use trendmicro's protection... I find symantec laggs your computer and Macacfee does not find anything.

thats just my opinion, I have been very pleased with TM.

I was curious about ZA's protection though... I guess thats good to know that it laggs too.

PC Cillin and Spy Sweeper.... But honestly I dont use anything not even a firewall and I'm fine. I use firefox although that shouldnt have too much of an impact.

avast + windows defender

i use mcafee everything even though its not the best (it all starts at the same time and pretty fast lol). zonealarm is a very good firewall. avast is popular majorly because you dont have to pay for it

I get Mcafee Virusscan free from school, so I use that plus ZA firewall and AdwareSE for spyware removal. It starts up pretty fast too, a lot better than tryin to load any of the major internet securities (norton, mcafee, etrust, ZA).

You dont necesarilly need a complete security from the same manufacturer. A good free AV plus the free version of ZA and smart browsing on firefox and u will be more than safe from viruses.

Once again, the "again" quastion.

Kerio PF + Avast.

Norton-anything always gave me headaches (resource hogs). People can say Symantec products are good (are they?), but I will stay safe for a while before I ever test one of their products again.

Kerio and AVG antivirus

Kaspersk Internet Security 6.0 -- it's the best anti-virus company. Those Russians are really good at math.

it should detect almost all intrusions. It's kinda pricey ($70 for a year for the all-in-one security suite) but was worth it to me.

avast / avg are good free AVs (avast > avg though). Then do a scan with Spybot once in a while....and you should be ok.

ohh..dont go to pr0n sites!

I don't know if this will help, but I wrote a guide a few months ago regarding all of this:

Hopefully it helps?

If you think you need it, ZoneAlarm is about the best. I have a hardware firewall in place at home and rely on Windows security when I have the laptop on the road. Plus I use McAfee AntiVirus all the time.

I used to use ZA, but found it slowed things down considerably.

I agree, Symantec Norton slows a lot of things down. It does have a lot of features.

I used McAfee free with AOL. When I try scanning, usually nothing shows. I try scanning with CA PestPatrol Anti-Spyware or free Panda from the internet, a lot is detected McAfee missed.

I'm going to try the Panda Internet Security 2007:

Any comments on that?

Got a dual core system so my machine is not the problem it seems like its an service which hangs.. no problem if I just use the Zonealarm firewall but if I install the Antivirus and Antispy stuff then it takes like 3 min to log in.

I've been using Nod32 for more than 2 years now without a single virus. I've also recommended it to all of my clients and anybody that has used it I have not been back to do virus removal.

I used to use Norton Internet Security 2005 but it hog too much resouces so i deleted em. My security now is manual activiate Anti spyware, that's it.
I don't have security problems so far for 1.3 years now.. I say those security packs are waste.. (for me).

I believe that the whole security thing is a hoax made up in order to sell you more crap you don't really need. All I use is Avira antivirus, complete scans with adaware and spybot every once in a while and common sence. For a firewall, I think there's one in my router (but I haven't played with it at all) and even have the windows one turned off.
