dv9000t

Thread Starter
well yesterday i got my dv9000t
(aug 28th(ordered) - september 25th(recieved))

i must say though, i am rather pleased.
I ran final fantasy XI benchmark program 3.

my model:
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
- 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
- 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
- HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone
- 2GB x DDR2 667mhz (1 GB x 2)
- 120 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
- High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

my results:

high resolution: 6800
low resoltuion: 8990

quite astounding results, and the visuals looked wonderful.

i must say thought even though the performance is awsome there are a few things i dont like:

It doesn't have a full keyboard:
it almost does, but the damned shift key is the size of a letter key, and to the right of it is the up arrow, so i keep hitting up instead of shift cause im a right handed shifter >.<.

The whole laptop is shiny and entirely smooth:
touch it and it fingerprints, even on the inside, its quite annoying and makes me feel dirty lol.

but besides that its a great laptop, runs at top speed, produces wonderful visuals, i can even finnally run obvlion at full speed on a laptop with full distance and everything and it hasn't lagged at all yet. = )

Thanks for the review, my system is identical except it has the 100gb 7200 hard drive. I cant wait to see how bf2, css, and cod2 run on it! I'm sure all of my photo-shop jobs will look great! what settings are you running oblivion on?

Hi everyone,

Got my dv9000t in the mail the other day, and thought I'd share how it performs playing Everquest 2. First, though, the stats:

Genuine Windows XP Professional
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
- 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
- 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
- HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone
- 2GB x DDR2 667mhz (1 GB x 2)
- 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
- High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I anticipated being able to play at "High Quality," which is how I play on my Big Momma desktop (eVGA 7800 GTX, AMD64 4000+, 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR400 RAM, 1600x1200, etc.). Sadly, it wasn't to be. Of course, I removed ALL bloatware, tweaked my services (disabled remote registry, etc.), defragged my drive w/Diskeeper 10, cleaned up my drive with CCleaner, optimized my pagefile.sys, etc. Before launching EQ2, I also whittled down the process list to 41. (On my desktop, I can get it down to 27).

So what was I able to play at with decent framerates? "Balanced." Not too shabby, really, but still a bit of a disappointment. <Edit> Okay, after a few minutes tweaking the numerous graphics settings, I am finally very happy with EverQuest 2 performance and graphics on this laptop. Even without antialiasing, it looks awesome. Please ignore any subsequent complaints (e.g., the very next sentence).</Edit> I think the 512MB 7600 is the root cause. This notebook would be perfect if HP offered either a 7800 or 7900-series card. But for the price, it can't be beat. All this goodness (minus the graphix card) for HALF the price of a similarly equipped Alienware or Dell. Besides, this has got to be the purtiest notebook on the planet. Makes the Dell look like a flat rock.

So, all in all I can't be happier. This is one hell of a nice notebook. Runs cool, too. Even after a 2-3 hour EQ2 session, the GPU doesn't get any hotter than 65C.

If I were to do a Newegg sort of scale, I'd give the dv9000t a 4.5 out of five stars. Ding 1/2 a star for the go 7600. And as for the truncated Shift key? Ya know, I don't have any problems with it, unless I'm actively thinking about it.

Laz

P.S. That little old Recovery partition? Man! It's fragment city! And Diskeeper can't fix it. Ugh. I'm thinking seriously about getting rid of it, once I burn my recovery DVDs. <Edit> Used Acronis to make an image of my main partition, and am storing it in a remote location. Subsequently deleted recovery partition and used PartitionMagic to restore primary partition to its full size. Awesome. </Edit>

Hi,
How is the ultra bright view screen display? I noticed on the dv8000t's in ultra bright view the screen looked great with no type of sparkle effect. I wondered if the dv9000t was just as good.
Thanks

hmm yeah

well there is no sparkle affect from what i can tell, the screen is really bright though, my previous laptop was the zd8000, which also had the ultra wide bright, this laptop can be a bit blinding lol, so i turn down the brightness like 2 nothches, but there is no glare or shine that i can tell.

as for oblivion, i've been playing it at 1440x900 w high textures, all the option bars fully to the right, shadows high. etc, everything maxed out, i used hdr for the lighting and it runs wonderful ^^ looks better than my 360 version

PC Magazine gave the dv9000t a "Very Good" rating yesterday:

Ben1000,

I'm ordering one as soon as I get my CCard credited[differerent vendor] for return on a defective laptop (overheating). Great pics, thank you.

I'm not going to watch TV on the system, maybe a DVD or two, so which OS would you choose?

Screen resolution? 1600x1080 or 1400x900?

At first boot did you need to download update drivers?

Does it seem to run cool? Is it difficult to get rid of the bloatware?

Thanks,
tailendcharlie2

I wanted to ask if the 7600 512mb version does the shared memory like most of the other graphics cards do?

I been trying to find information about it, because i'm making a decision between the dv9000t and dell 1705.
As far as I can tell with my 9000t, the card is 512mb dedicated. Ive checked every place that I could think of (the card being dedicated vs. shared was the difference between me keeping it and sending it back, especially since I spent $125 extra).

The 512 one is "spec'd" to be dedicated, but there is talk it isn't. It may be a case that EARLY machines are reporting the ram incorrectly... http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50109 (If HP is charging $100-$125+ for the 512 and it turns out it's some kind of software trick I hope they get caught.) That being said if you're a "gamer" go for the 1705 with the 7900GS.... It "smokes" the 7600 and will overclock. 3Dmark05? (from memory) dv8000t with Core Duo 7400 = 2250 7600 = 3550 Dell 1705 with CoreDuo 7900GS= 6,000+ Ran accross this post of some benchmarks on the HP dv9000t: Dv9000t CPU =unknown (Intel Core Duo 2, speed unkown) Ram=unknown GPU= Nivida Go 7600 (256?, 512?) Supposed to be "dedicated", but some people reporting it's "Shared". http://www.short-media.com/forum/sho...d=1#post428953 3dmark 05 (getting a 3915 with the HP installed drivers) and 3dMark 06 (getting a 1957 with HP installed drivers).

dutch88,
How does Call of Duty 2 play on your system? Did you have to download any patches from the website?
Thinking about buying the game. Appreciate any info you have, thanks. tailendcharlie2.
i think cod2 will play fine on it...i ran the game on a geforce fx5600 oc, it ran fine, i also ran it on my 6800gs and yeah it ran fine, so i assume it should work fine for you too

It depends on what uwant to do, if Gaming is a primary concern go w/ the AW as its single gtfx will destroy the HP not to mention its SLI ability. If gaming is not a concern the HP is a better coice as the SLI AW is overkill for everything but gaming and your spending money on stuff u wont need/use.

That being saidI would wait on the AW as the m9700 is still only single core w/ romors of dual core amd/core 2 duo's being announced this month.

thanks for that . i will be doing some gameing but also video editing musik and the everyday stuff . i wont be buying the laptop til april so if a dule core m9700 comes out that wold prob suit best cus it will then be much better for multitasking . also any one got any advice on the hp hard drive i mite even go with dule 100gigs (5400) rpm . wat would be the main advantages and disadvantages to this choice.
