m1210 + geforce 7400 + vista = base score 3

Thread Starter
I just installed vista rc1 today on my m1210 with the dedicated graphics card.

Im pretty shocked to see a base score of just 3/5

here are the subscores
cpu - 4.8
memory - 4.5
graphics - 3
gaming - 3.4
hard disk (i have a 5400 rpm) - 4.3

is there any chance my base score will increase with the full version of vista (maybe with the proper nvidia drivers). Otherwise its pretty sad vista wont run properly with a decent late 2006 config.

It's pretty with the way Microsoft benchmark the hardware
I tried the RC 1 benchmark on my parent's laptop(NEC Versa 15.4" with ATI X1600)

And I only got a base score of 3.4/5
And the problem is also with the graphics while the other subscores were well above 4.0

hmm...that seems about right. Anyone that thinks the M1210 is a "gaming" system is kidding themselves. Sure it's capable of running some of the newer games, but think in terms of what's out there. If it's on a scale of a 7900GT SLI being a 5 and an Intel integrated graphics being a 1...then I would likely put the 7400 around a 2.5 or 3. I'm actually surprised to see the gaming score at 3.4, which seems pretty good for a notebook.

Vista Build 5728

Processor: Subscore 4.9
Ram: Subscore 4.5
Graphics: Subscore 3.4
Gaming Graphics: Subscore 3.3
Primary Hard Disk Subscore 5.0

Core2 Duo 2.0Ghz
7400 & 7200 RPM
2gig 533mhz Ram

There was an updated Nvidia driver that came through windows update a couple of days ago that brought these numbers up a little.

The base score is the lowest score amongst all your subsystems...
The Go7400 returns a respectable score of 3 for what it is (which is a low power, low heat graphics solution and it would be foolish to expect a dual SLI system level performance from it...not that you could accomodate a X1900XT in a 12"er anyway )

For those who are running Vista with a Geforce Go 7400: How is your performance for Aero? Is it slow sometimes on your notebooks, too?

I tried drivers 95.64, 96.33 and 96.37 - but no difference...
I havent had any areo slowness/jerkyness since RC1, using the Microsoft Supplied Driver.

Scored a 3.6 with completely stock drivers and setup on Vista RC1 build 5600
With an e1505 radeon x1400 and 2gb ddr2 667Mhz ram.

My Performance Info says...

Processor: 5.2
Memory (RAM): 4.6
Graphics: 3.2
Gaming Graphics: 3.4
Primary Hard Disk (Transfer Rate): 4.9 (I have the 160GB Hitachi)

Happy about everything except the video card. That is kinda crappy. Is there any Vista drivers from NVIDIA yet?

Drivers for RC2 should be published this week...

Thats why I plan to wait at least 6 months after Vista is released until I even start thinking about buying another laptop...

Graphics (Nvidia Geforce Go 7400): 3.6 (Last post had 3.7, I am using the driver from Dell Website)
Gaming Graphics 3.3 (wheres my 3.5?)
Hard disk (100 gig, 7200 rpm): 5.0

When I received my new dell laptop few days ago I was shocked to see my base score of 2.2 (of course in graphics).
Well its not the m1210 but the cheaper 15.4 inch inspiron 6400.
Let me writedown my stats:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz, 2 Gb ram 533Mhz, 160 Gb Harddisk, Nvidea Ge Force go 7300 256mb, Dell Wireless 1390 mini card, 9 cell 85 whr battery and stuff.....

I was regretting why I chose the ge force go 7300 against the ati x1400. The x1400 was cheaper so I thought it was worse but afterwards I found reviews of the x1400 to be better.

After running windows update, I clicked on update score and was shocked to see the new results. The 2.2 had changed to 3.6 for graphics. Of course I didnt have any problem with aero before but I was quite happy with the new score. Here are my new stats:
Processor: 4.8
Memory: 4.5
Graphics: 3.6
Gaming: 3.2
Hard disk: 4.8

The gaming score was 3.3 before but it dropped to 3.2 this time. Rest all was the same before. i clicked on update score once again hoping to see some more change but the result was the same as above. I am satisfied with the new scores which I didn't expect from the go 7300 (2.2 to 3.6.....whoa!!!!!). I think graphic cards are like new cars. A brand new car runs smoother after completing 10-15,000km. Hence the graphic card must not have performed so well when tested for the first time. These stats are not bad for a 1249 CAD$ laptop( I got it for 949 with the 300$ dell coupon which I got with my telus high speed enhanced subscription)
