Laptop Backpacks

Hey,

Was just wondering if anybody knew of any good backpacks for holding 17" laptops like my XPSGen2... The bag it came with was good but it was also massive. Plus having XPS embroided into it was just asking for a mugging... Does anybody know of any good looking (ie not generic black backpack) laptop backpack that will fit the XPS and still provide decent protection without making it look like i'm going hiking.

Cheers

eBag's Macroloader. Works great with my 17" Widescreen E1705.

What about the Swiss Army bags?! They are nice, rugged and look tight! They sell them at Bestbuy I think.

Aren't those 15" only?

I got this one: http://www.ebags.com/high_sierra/pro...?modelid=62992

I love it. It also has backpack straps that you can hide inside if you don't want to use them.

That macroloader looks pretty sweet WackyT
How do you find it for getting the laptop in and out of it, also do you know if ebags will ship to Ireland...

I have a BoaXL from booq bags that I really like. The compartiment on mine is large enough that I can put the laptop into a sleeve and then that into the laptop compartment of the bag.

The bag itself is actually pretty streamlined which keeps everything close to your back making it easier to carry around for long times.

It not a traditional toploader. The laptop loads into a compartment on the side. Once you get the hang of it, it's not hard.

Try the UK: http://www.ebags.co.uk/ or Germany: http://www.ebags.de/index.cfm?SelectedSite=Y sites.

Hey WackyT, I have an E1705 too, also looking for a backpack... I agree that the macroloader looks pretty sweet. How protective is it for the laptop though? It has all these removable "shuttles", and it says throughout the feature list that removing them reduces the protection... Is the laptop buffered by some padding on all sides?

My biggest concern is just getting it so that the laptop is cushioned, so that I don't have to set it on the ground as if it were a fragile egg or thin glass but I can just set it down normally, as I would a bag of books, and then I don't have to worry about someone tripping on it or it falling over or whatever. I definitely like that idea of a side-loaded pocket though, sounds cool.

Oh and for everyone else, I was thinking either a backpack or a sleeve... Do any other E1705 owners have suggestions as far as sleeves? One of my friends is highly recommending a sleeve so that I can change between bags, or just carry it out of a bag sort of like a briefcase/messenger bag.

The E1705 fits into the Macroloader with all the padding in place. So, there is good padding all around it. I still wouldn't throw it on the ground like a bag of books, though.

A friend of mine has a Targus that he got from www.buy.com for like $70. It's a nice piece. I think I might get one too, so I don't have to carry my laptop case + bag around campus.

Do you know the model name of the Targus bag, OpticalIllusion? I could not find a reasonably sized Targus that'll hold a 17" laptop. All I could find is this huge "mountain survival" sized one.

Ive got the victorinox ("swiss army bag") for my 17" m170 and it fits perfectly and is very comfortable for carrying around. It is also a very sturdy ba as well, I'd recomend it.
