X300 to a 6800go upgrade in a 9300 - anything I need to do?

I just replaced my x300 with a 6800go. Opening up the laptop was surprisingly simple, and replacing the cards was no problem. However, there is now severe display corruption across the entire screen, even when booting and in the bios. The diagnostic tests report that there is a problem with the VRAM. I am assuming that the card itself is defective, and not some incompatibility with not being able to switch from an x300 to a 6800go, right?

Indeed. Verify the connections again, but it sounds like the card you got is toast. Where did you get it (if i may ask); if you got it from something like ebay, it would sound like they knew it was bad and sold it anyway..

Though, it wouldn't hurt to make sure you have the latest BIOS on there (or even use the modded Gen 2 bios)....

with the BIOS, also make sure the video BIOS are good. I've had a couple problems in the past with a 7800gtx and reflashing the original bios fixed it. good luck.

Did you update the video drivers from ATI to nvidia?

If you didnt, you shouldve uninstalled the ATI drivers before you took the ATI card out. Then you put the 6800 in and install the nvidia frivers.

Yes I did. But not that drivers would be the cause of the problem, as I have said the issue occurs everywhere - even in the BIOS screen. The 6800 is a dell replacement part. The box reads "refurb", which makes me think it might have been some broken part that was returned, even though it looked brand new. I have another on the way, hopefully that will fix everything right up.

Dell marks every replacement part as refurb, even if it is new.

Anyway, sounds like you will be set since they have another on the way for you.
