Out of luck with m5750

So, lets go directly to the topic... my excitement from beautiful m5750 diminished rapidly when I tried to switch it on. First of all I thought it does not have battery charged so I gave it few yours but it didn't help...

This amazing piece of hardware just didn't want to START!!! The led diodes would turn on and after 2 seconds went off again... WTH??? Where are all the promises on AW website about thorough system testing & quality checks??? This really should not happen. Believe me I was like almost having stroke

Then I thought that during the transportation RAM stick got loose or they didn't plug HDD all the way through. Advised by AW support guy I unscrewed the bottom covers and refitted everything. Didn't help. Then I got idea of testing the system with having only one RAM stick at the time. First - the same problem, then switched the second - and here we go... Alien Head Logo!

Called TS immediately and explained whole story. I spent almost an hour on the call requesting RMA - he needed to charge my card with the promise of back crediting after I send the defected stick back to them...

Yep yep... my first system story is quite drama - after 1 month of wait I have to deal with all this crap...

Anyway, I am optimistic for the future, especially when I see this beautiful lappie on my table

Oh yea... I got a "FREE" pandora's box upgrade... Anyway, here are more updates:

So figured out one stick is deffective with replacement comming (hopefully) in week or so, I went home to squeeze some juice out of ...
Hell No!!! Guess what happens. After 5 minutes of work ... shutdown-reboot+BSoD ... if I wouldn't read about this before I would totally smashed this thing to the corner !!!

Anyway, I called TS, explained the story. Guy was nice, walked me throught everything (like 1 hour call):

1st - download memtest utility from microsoft.
- burn iso
- boot cd and run extended 11 tests
- mem was ok so downloaded latest bios 1.15W
- burn iso
- boot cd and flash
- run scandisk

Since then (knock-knock) - no random shutdown/restart (only random freezes when playing with Bios settings + occasional turn on issues)

Besides to this - which is pain - the heatsink fan makes funny noises like I have cicada insde . Also I have 1 totally dead pixel in sector 8 + 1 partial in 9!

Besides to this, so far I couldn't make wireless to work, it constantly freezes the processes!!! I am thinking about installing Wins MYSELF!!!

So far so good, I am trying to be patient, but this makes me really busy! BUT IT'S DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! If I get rid of the biggest problems I am happy hippo .

Cheers!

Something similar happens to my 7700. When its fully charged, it just will not power up off battery. The Alien head lights up for 2 seconds, then it goes off. Although absolutely no problem with using the power adaptor. Its back to AW to get fixed anyway
Good luck

tinymouse...on the wireless issue, you might want to try disabling/removing the current wireless management program, and letting Windows handle the wireless...I believe there have been some other comments on here that may apply.

Do you have any anti-virus apps running? Sometimes these can interfere with the wireless operation as well.

After hours on phone they gave me label to ship it back to AW repair facility... In the meantime I was really considering canceling my order and (now excuse being heretic) go with Dell... I really want 100% working system, not just eye candy that would be sitting on the table looking at me with the blue eyes...

Sorry to read about this, I can only imagine how disappointing this is for you.

I'm sure AW will get it squared away for you. Hopefully it will be a quick turnaround and you won't have any more issues...

I'm having the same shutdown problem now, but mine was first a battery problem. I don't if it's something to do with the battery not being in the laptop, but it when i turn it on it goes for 2 seconds and then shutdown all in AC mode.

I dont believe mine is related to battery, since I tested all different combinations - BAT+AC / AC only / BAT + (RAM A in upper/bottom / RAM B in upper/slot / RAM A+B switching slot switch + unmount HDD, unmount optical, unmount WIFI card) - everything with the same results. One of my theories is that something got "burned" on the motherboard during unsuccessful turn-ons with defective MEM stick... But I might be wrong. What surprises me is the issue hasn't been identified during the SYS & QUALITY tests in AW factory. The only explanations that I have - either they never tested it (missing signature on the sticker) or something happened during the transportation (which is strange coz I would expect HDD go break rather then chips/board to burn...) To summ my scenario: After I removed the bad mem STICK I was playing with the comp, running 3dMark, installed drivers for one evening but in the morning I got the same response as if I had the bad one inside - I turned it on with button, blue led diodes lit up, HDD diode blinked few times, fan didn't start, screen was black, and after few seconds all diodes turned off and in a second the process started all over until I pressed off button for 10 seconds...

I've been having a similar problem with my m9700. Sent it in to tech support and they said it was the FEMOS battery. Check my review (in my sig) thread for the details. Hope this helps. LMK if it's the same issue for yours.
