Your specs look good
And the price isn't bad, either!

Others might advise against the WideUXGA display, because text will be very, very small on a 15.4" screen. However, I have no direct experience with these displays, so I'll leave others, who do, to give their opinions on that matter.

Looks good.

The only suggestions I'd make... You can get the least amount of memory from AW, then order memory from Newegg.com and save some money usually. If money is an issue you can save about $100 that way.

And the resolution of the WUXGA screen is pretty high for a 15" screen. The text on webpages will look very small. I have that resolution on my m9700 with a 17" screen, and it's tolerable, but the text is pretty small.

You can scale down the resolution though with that screen, you can't scale up the lower res screens... Given the choices though, the low res screen is pretty low so I'd likely get the WUXGA myself and live with it.

the suggestion I would make would be to make sure you get the 3-YR warranty.... ALWAYS when buying a laptop

as everyone suggested the screen resolution will be very small (but I personally don't mind) I have a WXGA screen on my 15.4 laptop and I really wish I had @ least a wsxga+ screen.

like HH suggested you can save a few bucks on ram, also I was wondering why you decided on the 5550? need something more mobile? b/c you can get a 5750 (17" screen) for the same amount of $..

just throwing out other options for ya.

My 2 cents...like Yang says, if mobility is important - and if this is not your primary gaming machine (or you're not looking for top end gaming performance) - the m5550 is a good option. If you want more graphics horsepower, the 17" m5750 is a good choice.

I think the m5550 is a great all around notebook...good for everyday use, relatively easy to carry around, easy to use on your lap, and it will do a good job with games, video, etc.

I would definitely recommend AGAINST the 1920x1200 display...1280x800 is plenty for a 15.4 inch display unless you have some specific applications where you need higher resolution. If you are using the machine for gaming, you'll also get better performance out of the lower res display running at native resolution.

BUT, if you eyesight is great, and you don't mind smaller text - you may be okay with the 1920x1200. It would be ideal if you could check out 15.4" systems with each display before you order.

Actually, I did something to that effect. When I was trying to decide between the M5550 and the M5750, I was wondering what the weight difference really was. I went over to best buy and lifted a few different laptops to get a feel and decided that I didn't want a 17" sitting on my Lap. You should be able to do the same. Just go and check out different resolutions at a few local stores and see. It's easy. It doesn't have to be the exact laptop you are looking for, just pick a few to see what the differences are.

Thankyou so much for all of your opinions.
I'll go today and see how big and heavy 17" are, to make up my mind.
As soon as I have a "winner" I'll let you know, (hopefully very soon) jeje
thx again for your opinions
