New BIOS... Again. (1.14)

They came out with another BIOS yet again. Version 1.14. Im gonna burn it and install it in a min and see what happens in 3dmarks.

How many times can I flash this chip before I burn it out? I miust have flashed it like 12 time already.

This file contains an ISO for you to create a Bootable CD with all the necessary files to flash your BIOS. This version updates the ATI and Nvidia VGA BIOS, and updates the Smart Power feature. Apply this update ONLY if you are experiencing problems with your system. CAUTION: IMPROPERLY UPDATING OR FLASHING THE BIOS CMOS CHIP ON A MOTHERBOARD CAN DAMAGE THE MOTHERBOARD TO THE POINT OF RENDERING IT USELESS. ACCORDINGLY, YOU SHOULD PERFORM THIS BIOS UPDATE ONLY WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF AN ALIENWARE TECHNICAL SUPPORT AGENT. PERFORMING THIS BIOS UPDATE WITHOUT SUCH ASSISTANCE WILL VOID YOUR SYSTEM'S WARRANTY.

i don't understadn why you are flashing the bios if you aren't having any problems?

sounds liek playing with fire to me

...well if it updates the ati vga bios I wonder if it fixes the washout...BTW smart power is screwed up for everyone I believe because the previous bios releases did not properly implement it...so that is reason to upgrade! Can anyone verify if it fixes the washou!!!

For me this did nothing. My 3d Marks score dint change. The only thing I get again, like I did with every BIOS but the 1.05 Is windows wont load on start up if I had the Power cord and Battery in simaltaniously.

Jam... in reality I love playing with fire ( Thus the name ), just because it can burn ya. Its unpredictable. I dont cause damage to anyones property besides my own upon occation.

As for the BIOS. I want one that will work on my computer. And allow me to shut off the eyes. They bug the sh** out of me.

Ah-las...yet another failed BIOS for me.

Anyone who the bios update works for does this one fix the washout issue? I am dying to know (but too scared to try myself-I'll admit it)!!!

I don't think there's any BIOS out there now that fix the washout probs ..
Tho 1.13.11 fixed my screen problem (It used to give me some weird pink pixel after like 15 mins of gaming)

Technically you can flash it forever, if it worked the first time you are usually good forever. When it flashed the bios, it first erases it by applying a high voltage charge to the chip. If you survive that once you can usually handle it forever.

well I flashed to the newest bios. Not sure what it did, we'll have to see.

No fix on the washout???
no clue, form what I understand the washout issue is adjusting the gamma levels around to correct for LCD brightness. You do have to realize that my system is a bit tweaked from the normal system. I am running 56.56 modded drivers so I might not see any changes.
Thor, buddy you gonna share those drivers like the 53.03's?
I am running some modded drivers too (latest Omega's)...I have adjusted and everything looks beautiful but I would really love to just have drivers that on default look beautiful...is that too much to ask from a $4000+ system...

I'm not sure these are worth shareing. I like how they reagranded the menues and all, added auto over clocking with the use of coolbits. Each application has its own performance setitngs, so if you want AA in ET, but not UT2004, it can take care of that. My problems lie in stability and performance. NV didn't release 56.56 becuase of UT2004 performance problems, and my 56.55 were locking up on me in ET. I do have the 56.55 up in my webspace as : http://mywebpages.comcast.net/thor11...e/Thor5655.zip if you want to try them. They are suposed to release a new driver soon to fix the UT problem, and maybe a host of other problems that thye might have caused. I will certianly start a new thread when I have modded the new set

PS: as a turned 21 in Nov, I have learned today that tequila DOES NOT mix with coke... (shudders)

You should be able to flash at least 10,000 to 100,000 times. Lets hope there arent that many bios updates.
I'm with jamaster, I never had the washout problem. I'm running the current ATI drivers from the AW site and BIOS version 1.09 along with XP home. Did a fresh install (including BIOS flash) about 3 days ago to correct a trackpad prob, but never had any visual probs. The screen was a little bright, so I used AlienAdrenaline to set it the way I like.

They call that a "Mexicola" where I'm from...I drink it all the time...
Why would you wanna mix tequila with anything (other than a 6 gallon margarita)? Be a man! Hit it straight.

Personally I like to have my drivers, firmware, and BIOS up to date. You never know what little nagging problem that you assume is normal is being caused by outdated software.
