Thread Starter
Hello,

I have a a Sager 8890 that I would like to add a second hard Drive to. Does anyone know where I can buy the bracket and cable needed to do this? I have contacted Sager and the said that the parts have been discontinued. Thanks!!

janzy,

If your hard drive bracket will fit my NP8880 and you don't hear from kastawaykid, let me know.

Thanks,
Doug

janzy,

I'm assuming the parts are in the top 2 photos from the left. Were these removed from a hard disk bracket from a 8890? I haven't taken my 2nd bay cover off yet to see if it's actually just a cover or a hard drive bracket kit. How much are you asking for the parts?

Thanks,
Doug

Both parts are new.
I ordered them for my 8790, but I sold the computer.
I think they will fit the 8890 also.
$25 plus $5 for shipping.

hate to smash the party guys but a 8790 kit will not fit the 8890.
This is the bracket for an 8890 2nd drive bay.

Associated carrier:

and the connector bridge with associated adaptor circuit board:

I suggest checking ebay for people parting out any of the 88xx series laptops. Any of the 8880 8886 8887 or 8890 machines may have the parts you need.

As a note for future reference, I suggest to people when buying a laptop, buy all the parts you need no later than 6 months after you buy your original system because the rate of change in this industry means your brand new laptop is going to be obsolete before you even buy it

Connector bridge I have for the 8790 has the same numbers as the one pictured.
bridge is only part of the kit janzy.
you also need the circuit board pictured.
i should have been more specific in my post.

so, bear with me, I'm a slow learner.
The kit also contains a circuit board?
The 8790 hd cable connects to a connector on the mobo.
yes.
the kit includes the circuit board (with screws), insulation cover for the disk, side mounting brackets (with screws) (see first photo) and flex bridging cable.
There is a filler plate already mounted inside the carrier piece (see left hand side of second photo) which you remove prior to mounting the disk in its place.

Once the disk and adaptor circuit board are mounted in the carrier, jumpers removed, flex cable attached the carrier is then re-inserted into the chassis. The reason you need adaptor circuit board is that the 8890 could take one of three devices in the second drive bay; a DVD/CD drive, a disk drive in RAID or non-RAID configuration, or a 4 port network sharing module (ie. a mini network switch). In order to support the various options the adaptor circuit card provides first level electronic interface to the connector on the mother board. Very clever really.

Port sharing / Network switch card.
