Hi all, just found this site which I have found very helpful. A friend of mine told me about Alienware so I checked out their site.

Damn was I blown away.

I liked the systems they offered and I wanted one. I finally mustered up the funds and bought my 1st alien lappy the Area 51 m5750.

I ordered my system on 09/12/06. Here are the specs

I read some reviews on some sites about alienware which weren't too reassuring, but then I found this site. I like it. Its been very helpful, telling you wht to expect from the phases right down to fixes for problems with your lappy right from the box.

I must say the wait is long. my system only moved to phase 4 on 09/25/06 then to phase 5 on 09/26/06. Now im checking the site, 09/28/06, its in phase 9.

I live in Antigua, thats in the Caribbean, so I should have it in the next wk or so. I just hope I dont have any problems out of the box like some of you guys experienced. Im just gonna keep my fingers crossed.

Anyways, its great to be apart of such a great forum an i'll keep you guys posted once i get my system.

Well folks, my system has been shipped and I got me my tracking number.

Just one thing though, the email they sent said that the packages must be received in person. I actually shipped my package to an overseas mailbox that will then ship it to me.

Do I have to personally be the one to accept the package or as long as the package is delivered to a person its ok.

Thats the only thing Im worried about but other than that im thrilled. after three weeks of waiting i'll finally have my first lappy

Herm, I would personally let alienware know of the situation, because I think it would hafta be you.
They say that, but its not entirely true. When mine shipped, I wasnt around for the package, they left it with my neighbors.

In your case, i dont think it will be a problem... it obviously has to go somewhere after it gets to the overseas mailbox.

It depends on who sends the package. And how they sent the package.

Check on the tracking info, if it says personal signature required, yup, gonna need to call them...

Hell, I'd call them to let them know the situation even if all it says is direct signature requred...

Their have been times where ups and fedex haven't been able to leave packages for me because they needed my personal signature... these were on pretty big packages... usually the check sum of computer parts bought at newegg... If you spend a great deal, expect 'personal signature required' to be on their...

But ya, really depends on the company and how they send. I've ordered small items before and they expected my signature. What the...?

From my tracking number, it seems that all they expect is a direct signature, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. But I would call to let them know about it.

It depends on which shipping company it is, and what their practice is...if they normally deliver to the site you have it going to - there probably won't be a problem. At the very least, it wouldn't hurt to send some type of authorization to the mail transfer company showing their acting for you.

I haven't personally accepted delivery of the Alienware systems I've purchased...someone else signed for them at the house.

Thx for all the feedback. The package is being delivered by Fedex. The site they will be delivering it to is like a hub for a mail box here at home.

Im not the only person that uses this service so im sure its not the first time they will be making a delivery there.

Anywayz, i checked out the the tracking site, and it says 'direct signature required'.

I can't call alienware support to confirm if I have to be the one to receive the package cause they dont work weekends.

But I aint worrying. The mailbox is in Florida, Alienware is in Florida, and the etsimated delivery is for today. If anything happens i'll give support a ring first thing monday morn.

In the meantime, I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope forthe best.

Thanks again for all your help and support. Will keep ya posted

I'm sure FedEx will leave it with a mailbox service as long as someone there signs for it. If they don't, you can always have them ship it again with special instructions.

I believe AW's policy is customer signature, but my wife has signed for stuff for me, so it's usually up to FedEx and their policies.
