Music Authoring Programs?

Are there any free programs out there to make music? Nothing too too fancy, I am really just interested in synthesizers and stuff. If you could point me in the direction of anything that'd be great.

Thanks.

There are 100's of free virtual synths called VSTi's.

You'll also need a VST host, there are a couple free ones too.

Do you have any hardware synths, keyboards, gear?
More info will help me point you in the right drection.

No I dont have any hardware. I dont really want any either. I just want to mess around and try to make sounds that resemble music. Kinda like Garage Band on the Mac I guess. I saw a demo of that on Call for Help on TechTV and it looked like fun.

Also would be nice if it was farely easy to use and get a hang of.

Thanks.

Get the Bome's Mouse Keyboard.

You can use your mouse or keyboard to trigger notes of virtual synths.

There's also a nice tutorial on how to set it up.

You'll also need MIDI Yoke http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http....com/myoke.htm

It installs virtual MIDI ports on you PC

Also would be nice if it was farely easy to use and get a hang of.

Can't say that it's that easy to setup but once it works it's great.

Go out and get yourself a copy of computer music. They have a whole suite of free music making stuff. If that is too complicatd for you, you may want to look at a program like FruityLoops.
