Gateway 7422GX battery

Hi guys. I haven't posted on here in quite sometime, but I have been browsing and reading a little. Well it seems my 7422GX battery has seen better days. When I originally bought the laptop 1 1/2 years ago I was getting approx 2 hrs 45 min of battery life out of it. Now at best I get 50 min of battery life. Is this normal for the battery to wear out in just over a year? What is the best place to purchase a new battery? I feel the laptop is still pretty much up to date and didn't want to replace it for another year or maybe even two. Thanks!

For starters, make certain you are not running at full speed while on battery. That will drop runtime like a rock.

I'm sure there are many utilities that can check wear, but the one I usually lose in in with mobmeter (or mobilemeter). Here is a link to the translated homepage for the writer: http://translate.google.com/translat...lr%3D%26sa%3DG

In the options, look at "Battery Information" and it will tell you your current wear level, as well as the model number, etc you can use to search for new batteries on eBay, etc.

As far as normal, that seems a bit quick for it to wear that quick, but I have seen worse. FWIW, Mine is about 2.5 years old and is at 13% wear level. It is still good enough to get well over 2 hours (closer to 2.5).

How do I determine if I running at full speed while on battery?

I checked MobileMeter and it says my battery wear is at 57%!

I don't run my laptop on battery that often to be honest, I can't understand why it would wear out so fast.

Look at mobile meter while it's running. It will display frequency information. You should be around 800MHz while idling.

I heard anytime a battery goes below 15% charge, it will seriously decrease the recharging capacity...
