And no, you are not able to update the graphics card, there are different motherboards for each graphics card so it is completely impossible. Better cancel it and re-order! But yes, the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GS is a lot better, thus its slightly higher price. But I can tell you, it is WELL worth it, especially for games!!

That is INCORRECT!! YES!!! You can upgrade the graphics card in an E1705 that comes with an ATI X1400 to a nVidia 7900GS.

The motherboards are the same. The one that is different, is the E1705 that comes with integrated video (Intel).

I have done an upgrade of an E1705 that came with X1400 up to a 7900GS. Simply take the E1705 apart, and unscrew the video card. Pop it off, put the new on one, screw it down, and put your E1705 back together. 15-20 minutes tops. Very easy. No having to reapply thermal grease or anything. The upgrade is very "modular".

Regarding getting rid of the Dell bloatware, I usually just go through Add/Remove programs and take out what I don't want. Some will say it leaves traces of other stuff behind, and it might, but I've never known it to be a big issue. My notebooks work just as I'd expect. If you want to go through the hassle of reformatting and reloading all the drivers and notebook support software, be my guest. But my opinion is your "return on investment" is pretty low. (ok, I'm now ready to get blasted by all the gear-heads on this forum who's belief (religion) is that reformatting is the ONLY way to go!!)

When I got mine I just ran the de-crapfier, when through msconfig, checked for any left over crap and it seems good to go. If it seemed slow or had over 40 processes running I might reformatt. Thats just my humble opinion. Also I think you can upgrade from x1400 to 7900, but not from integrated intel.
