is is possible to install a satellite card on a Laptop?
i know they have it in PCI form for PC.
but is there mini-PCI satellite cards for laptops?

Do you mean a card that will receive Cell signals so you can get internet anywhere?

I've got a tv tuner card, and I hook it up to my satellite tv box and it works fine.

i mean a satellite dish card like you use it in your PC instead of a tv-box+tuner
post #4 of 23
Why would you need that card, wouldnt it be the same as a tv tuner?

yes it would be like TV tuner but instead of TV channels it will recive satellite channels + satellite internet

It depends, in mobile systems there are TV tuner boxes that connect to standard TV satellite TV boxes and can interact with them so the computer can also work like a DVR.

There are currently no computer TV tuners that work with HDTV satellite or cable boxes, you can use the computer to display the image via the TV tuner and change the channel manually but it won't interact with it. The only ones I've seen can only get over-the-air HDTV signals and they are just for desktop systems.

If you have access to the internet via your satellite TV provider I believe you may have a satellite modem provided by them. You can acess the internet via satellite with your mobile system inside your home by connecting it to the modem directly or a router connected to it either wired or wirelessly depending on the router.

A more detailed explanation of your setup will be useful. There are no cards for mobile systems that will do all that as far as I know, you may want to ask your provider also if they offer one.

You mean receive directly from the satellite? with out any other hardware?

I dont think there is anything out there that can do that.

TV tuner will recieve all of the channels from a satellite, im sure as long as it uses coaxial (I dont have satellite nor messed with it before).

I have a PCI DVB-S Sattelite Tuner in one of my desktop machines. YES, these do exist. As far as mini-pci goes, I don't think anyone would make one internally for this as the 13v/18v(19v really) voltage and current required for the LNB is a whole lot for inside a laptop. There are external USB ones that do work. Also, if you can find one, get a genpix tuner as they can do 8PSK as well as QPSK. QPSK is Standard Definition while 8PSK is high def. The only downside to a genpix tuner is they may or may not have windows support. This is a special tuner made in small quantities specifically targetting the linux/mythtv home brew dvr market. Also, as far as being able to watch the US/CA channels (Dish Network or BEV), you will need a legit subscribed card to use it.

Thanx ALOT s0be

you got the best idea for me
yes Satellite TV USB 2.0 Receiver
this will work fine for me
i did some research about {Satellite TV USB 2.0 Receiver } that work with windows
i found this one what is your openion?

I'll say that that looks like a decent product, and Twinhan makes some good cards. The only downside to that one (it looks like), it won't do Dishnet HDTV. Dishnet HDTV uses an encoding called 8psk, rather than Qpsk. Qpsk is Quadrature Phase-shift Keying while 8psk is Eighth Phase-shift Keying. While QPSK allows for Low-High Def video, 8PSK or QAM are required for true high def. I know that Dish and Bev only send High Def on 8psk, while you can still get standard depth with QPSK(which is still higher quality than you could get with even an ultra high quality cable signal, non digital). Rather than searching for Satellite TV, search for DVB-S.

i'm ordering one my self
just sent the wire transfer as i'm not in USA to just use the Credit Card option

why don't merchants accept international Credit Cards ? it will cost less for alot of people !!
The reason international Credit Cards are not accepted by most places is (like where I'm working at) that there are so many attempts at fraud. We'll only do international credit cards for orders in th $400 to $800 range, the reason being, we contact the issuing banks to verify with them that the shipping address is registered with them, and to get a proper pre-auth for the amount.

The 7021a is working all right. I am having small firmware issues under linux, but windows worked great out of the box.

That happens with my international Visa too, it is an annoyance to those of us who use them when a store does not take international cards, I've learned from experience that it doesn't hurt sending an e-mail first asking them if they accept international cards.

Although I've just had that problem with a store or two, many stores don't have a problem taking an international credit card as long as all the info checks out.

You also have to understand that merchants take the loss if they let a stolen card go through plus they'll be fined a percentage of the transaction by the credit card company if that happens.

Yeah, I'm the IT guy at a company that does heavy CC Sales. We make exceptions from time to time, but for every honest person overseas trying to make an order, we get 10-15 orders from people trying to scam. It is fairly country dependent though. We rarely have troubles with EU countries, and, south american countries seem fine too. Most problems we've had have been either African or Asian. I don't have anything personally wrong with african or asian people because of this, but I'm very wary of shipping things there without a verified payment now. It's also very tough due to the language barrier. You can't assume an order is fraud just because the person doesn't speek English good and stuff (Zoolander Reference ).

Well, I envy people NOT in the US when it comes to DVB hardware. It is QUITE tough to find a source for stuff like this around here. I've ordered 2 such cards, both from geeks.com. What I REALLY want is one of the Quattros cards (PCI-E, Dual DVB-T Tuners, Dual DVB-S Tuners), but that's only available from Australia. Even with a friendly conversion rate, it's still way out of my price range once you figure in the shipping time, etc.
