Just ordered one of these yesterday thru pcsuperdeals.com - Showing as "shipped" (this was the same deal as on Buy.com) but Buy.com is sold out with no eta on a new shipment.

Spent more time than I care to admit calling around yesterday... Ended up placing an order thru the above link.

Nice people. Ask for Justin..... Had an issue or two, got a call back + email right away... Yesterday the $100 HP "rebate" was NOT showing, Justin saying the rebate would apply.... BUT the HP site itself saying Promo item, no further rebates coupons would be honored...

Anyways I just called and talked with NED, asked him to verify the rebate as indeed valid.

Told him of the other sites and asked him to check PcMall.com since PCMall was showing the rebate, Price $599 -$100 HP mail in rebate... $499 after rebate..

While we were "talking" NED told me to double check their website again.... and lol and behold the rebate info is now listed!!!!!

If you order one, tell him AW, order #47384 sent you.

Very nice price
Though Sempron is a budget processor (limited L2 cache) similar to Intel's Celeron series, but for 500 bucks is a great bussiness laptop.

If you run across any benchmarks, feel free to post. Yes I know it doesn't have as much cache, bu from what I've read so far the AMD chips don't need the same amount of cache as an Intel chip. 4 hours battery life of the RB526UT#ABA sounds pretty good... and I'm even thinking for most purposes the 4x3 format screen will be better for displaying webpages, documents since it is slightly taller than a 16x9 screen. From what I've read hear and there the cpu can be upgraded so that's a plus and the fact it comes with (1) 512 dimm, vs 2x256 dimms of a "consumer grade" machine, has Magnesium alloy frames and display enclosures and has a HP Spill-resistant keyboard has the HP Biometric Fingerprint Sensor, the hard drive is protected against shocks and the battery charges in only 90 minutes , and has a MUCH longer product cycle, is a plus as well.

of some good info: PS: The RB526UT#ABA nx6325 for $500 comes with 1.8 GHz, 256-KB L2 cache

The Sempron 3400+ has a die size of 84mm2, produced on AMD's 90-nanometer silicon-on-insulator (SOI) process. Sempron is somehow similar to Intel's Celeron D processor, but outperforms it in every way, especially in games, also it provides 64-bit and SSE3 support. But falls behind when compared to Athlon 64 3400+ in every single test.

I've read so far the AMD chips don't need the same amount of cache as an Intel chip.

In todays pc the cache hit ratio is near 95% , considering how many times a processor can access the cache in a second even the smallest increase of cache could increase performance. But doubling up the cache doesnt mean you get double the performance since it doesn't scale linear.

Most of the time a doubling cache (not changing anything else) would cut the miss ratio by half, since miss ratio is already chunk down to 0.05, it doesnt sound like a big improvement but consider as i said before how many access per second a modern processor can perform.

AMD Sempron 3400++ comes in Socket 754 or AM2, from the specs you provide i assume it's AM2 cause of the use of DDR2. You could easily upgrade when needed but make sure the Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the new processor is similar to Sempron 3400++ to avoid any overheat problems that may occur.

And i must say its a very good purchase considering the quality and price. Later on you could upgrade ram or cpu if needed.

More info on the "HP Business line of notebooks"

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread170474.html

Info on "some" SATA hard drives NOT working correctly with the built-in Mobile Data Protection System. The data protection system simply informs you Device Not Supported. It will not take advantage of the built in accelerometer, so the heads will not be parked with sudden jolts or a drop.

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread164119.html

PS: For anyone that has a business class machine that has replaced the hard drive, Please post your model number of your machine and the model number /info off the drive so we can build a database of hard drives that will work in these units. Seems like the nw8440 does NOT like the Hitachi Travelstar 7k100 hard drive noted in the above link.

In case anyone's interested:

Swapped hard drive that shipped with the unit, with another one, and it works just fine.

I was concerned about the Seagate not working properly with the HP Mobile Data Protection, but it appears the nx6325 doesn't have that feature.. (unless I missed it..). Guess I need to put the stock hd back in and check, but I think I read a review saying the "other" nx6325's don't have that feature..

Here's a review of the nx6325 with the same gpu, but with the AMD 1.6-GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 CPU.

I'm pretty sure the RB526UT#ABA uses the SAME motherboard, and uses the SAME bios and from posts I've read one of the "faster" 64 x2 chips may be a direct drop-in.

(If ANYONE has any info on that, feel free to post the details!!!)

EDITOR RATING:

By Cisco Cheng
It doesn't take a technology expert to realize that Intel processors dominate the laptop market and AMD is playing catchup. This impression may change with the Compaq nx6325 ($1,249 direct, as tested), the first business notebook to arrive at my bench running the new 1.6-GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 CPU. Though its clock speed may not conjure up images of bleeding-edge performance, this system can hang right in there with the similarly configured 1.67-GHz Intel Core Duo T2300 notebooks I've tested recently.
The nx6325 looks identical to other laptops in HP's Compaq business line. The 6.1 pound notebook is encased in magnesium alloy, which shields the notebook from bumps and excessive heat. The Compaq's full-size keyboard makes for comfortable typing, and I really like the rubber mouse buttons as well. The typing experience on the Lenovo 3000 N100 is still much better, though, thanks to that machine's excellent keyboard.
I found the nx6325's 15-inch screen a bit large and its 1,024-by-768 maximum resolution a tad low. The ideal measurement for a notebook this size is 14 inches with a 1,400-by-1,050 resolution, but that's just me. In addition, the matte display fends off glare well.
The nx6325 offers a wide range of connections: three USB ports, FireWire, S-Video Out, and a 6-in-1 card reader (MS, Pro, SD, MMC, xD, SM). The system also includes a dual-layer DVD burner and an 80GB, 5,400-rpm hard drive. For wireless connectivity, it uses Broadcom's 802.11a/g Wi-Fi radio. This laptop is geared toward budget business users and doesn't come with Bluetooth or an integrated cellular modem to operate on Verizon or Cingular's data networks, as do the HP Compaq nc6400 and the nc6320.

Of course, the system's dual-core mobile AMD processor is what really piques my interest. My configuration uses the lowest-clocked Turion X2 CPU available—the 1.6-GHz TL-52. Currently, the highest-clocked Turion X2 is the 1.8 GHz TL-56, which means that AMD doesn't yet have an answer to the 2.0-GHz and the 2.16-GHz Intel Core Duos. For the sake of comparison, though, I gathered several notebooks with Intel Core Duos with clock speeds in the 1.6-GHz range to get a rough idea of how the AMD Turion X2 compared.

According to SYSmark 2004 SE overall scores, the Acer TravelMate 4202WLMi was 9.7 percent faster than the nx6325 and the Dell Inspiron E1505 was 12.2 percent faster. All three systems have 1GB of RAM, 5,400-rpm hard drives, and processors running at 1.6 GHz. The Dell, equipped with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300, has superior, discrete 3D graphics. In contrast, the nx6325 relies on an integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 chipset to drive its display, one that snared up to 128MB of RAM from the main system memory—which definitely affects its performance. For 3D purposes, your best bet is still the Lenovo N100 or the Dell E1505. Keep in mind, though, that the Compaq nx6325 has something none of the Intel Core Duos currently have—64-bit processing. This could benefit you if you're a database programmer or anyone who has to crunch extensive numbers and needs more system memory to do so with.
On my battery-life tests, the Compaq nx6325 proved itself a hardy machine. It drained its battery in 4 hours 26 minutes, which is very good for a 55-Wh battery and enough to outlast the comparable Acer, Lenovo, and Dell notebooks. Granted, the Acer has a smaller (44-Wh) battery, and the Lenovo and Dell use power-draining graphics chipsets. All in all, the battery life of AMD dual-core systems is on a par with results I've seen with Intel Core Duo chips.
Though it may not be quite as fast as its Intel-powered counterparts, the HP Compaq nx6325 is a very good machine for any performance junkie, thanks to a dual-core 64-bit processor and great battery life. It's a very good value for the money.

See how the HP Compaq nx6325 measures up to similar systems in our side-by-side laptop comparison chart. Benchmark Test Results
