will dell let you put upcoming 1GB Nvidia Geforce 8800 graphic card to your laptop ?

Thread Starter
I've found some articles about the one gig geforce graphic card that is about to be released. Nvidia stoped production of GeForce 7950 GX2 andi GeForce 7900GTX because of a new Geforce 8800. Do you think that Dell will let you put it into your XPS or 1705 ? :P

Check out those articles, what do you think ?

Has Dell announced they're going to produce a card that'll work in their current model laptops?

Those look a lot like desktop boards to me.

Double-slot sized, water cooled, dual auxillery power connectors, and additional length for the GDDR3 chip spacing..... YEP, it'll fit in our laptops perfect, just drops right in.

Would be nice if the XPS M171, M90, and E1705 can at least upgrade once to the new geforce 8800. I just pray we can upgrade to those cards!!!

Ya know, to be completely honest... you should wait until the '8800' chip becomes available in the Go flavor... this card doesnt even exist on American soil yet, and you are asking whether it will fit your laptop! Look, I know everyone is excited about DX10 and the upcoming mobile variants which may come to Dell... but they just plain DO NOT exist yet! What you are showing us is a desktop prototype, that they are just guesstimating will require 300Watts of power! I have a feeling my 90Watt power brick just wont cut it for that kind of draw, lol.

Just try to be realistic, and realize that what you see on that website, won't ever make it to the mobile market in that particular setting. In other words, they will have to make some serious changes to the architecture to even make that chip feasible for a notebook. We don't exactly have much extra space for water cooling, really... Give it time. Nobody in here even knows for sure what Dell has on thier minds for the future... I can assure you though, that once a card is available, for any notebook, someone in here will be trying their best to cram it into thier M1710/E1705/M90... Patience grasshopper...

Mind you there will be no DX10 until Windows Vista and even then there won't be games taking full advantage of its features let alone REQUIRING them for a good year after that. So you got a ways to go before you should be worrying about having a DX10 compatible graphics card.

And to think, I was being nice and didn't mention the power requirements. I think we have enough room left after the video card to stuff a 600w PSU in behind the LCD also.
