Our new random learning experience for the day....

eth1394 seems to work pretty well for Ethernet over firewire, of course when connecting and backing up a samba share, make sure you are in the right directory, and not one that you just unmounted...

quick way to fill up your / partition on accident, and be wondering where all your data went Thankfully I caught it before I did much, but dang that might have gotten ugly if I hadn't have been paranoid about putting /var and /tmp on their own partitions.

This has been brought to you by a severe lack of sleep causing me to do things that should be common sense

Quick advice: Never maintain computers when you're sleepy. Just using them is one thing, but I've done some unbelievably stupid, destructive things when trying to install distros, compile the kernel, etc. at 3am.

Now please don't ask why I would be installing a Linux distro at 3am.

I have to keep a checklist handy when I do a reformat. I always forget to backup too many critical things and end up making my life miserable for a week.

This thread is exactly why I invested in an external HDD lol. As for installing distro's at 3AM, see what happens when ollywompus is trying to update from hoary to breezy and has no display all of a sudden...

...that pissed me off, and took a shatload of tweaking... editing .conf files at 3AM is even worse than just straight installing!

Heh what do you think I am doing when I install Gentoo at 3-5AM?

I learned, keep a good conf file on a webserver, it saves a LOT of problems
