Toshiba Notebooks come with batteries that sucks

I bought a A80 and M100 Satallite recently only to find out that the battery life last for less than 2 hours for A80 and less than an hour for M100. It was informed on toshiba website that these 2 batteries are recalled, however upon sending it to tashiba data centre in Singapore, I was told that the batteries are not under the recall mode. PA3399U-2bas and 1bas.

They took 4 days to inform me that the average life of my batteries is 2.5 hours and 3.5 hourse respectively and instructed me to update my Bios for a longer battery life.

I followed instructions given, but the battery life still last m for less than an hour. And that is a normal usage for sufing webpages and with a word application on.

This applies to A80 battery as well. Why in the first place did Toshiba sell a battery that has a ridiculously short lifetime (2.5hrs) for a laptop like Stallite M100 and A80? And Why did they not update the Bios before selling the laptop. My laptop is less than a month old. and Why did the battery life not last for even 2 hours (if they have given a 2.5 hours lifetime) but less than an hour?
And worst of all, my battery was not offered an exchage after all the hazard i went through......

You should select the Long Life profile in the power management console if
you want longer battery life. In the default set-up the profile is set to Normal.

But don't you think that a laptop like M100 and A80 with a battery life that last less than an hour or 2 is ridiculous?

And they advertise that it is

"making it perfect for mobile users who want comfortable size, weight, on-the-go productivity and multimedia performance."
Isn't this misleading?

hmmm i have a Toshiba M100 with the 1.6Ghz Dual Core and the batter for me lasts about 3.25 hours, that is surfing the net using a PCMCIA broadband card. My profile is set to Long Battery Life, and as well as that i am using NHC to control the voltage. I have set it to its lowest setting of 0.95 volts for all multiplier range from 6x to 12x. I have ran a test on it and it was stable at that voltage.

Your battery was returned because it was not defected. The effected batteries were only included in certain batches and not all for your specific laptop. I have an M105 (one of the effected models) and I clearly saw on the website that my specific battery was not effected by the recall. There was even a download utility that checked the battery info so you wouldn't have to check the batch numbers on the battery itself.

As for battery life, mine lasts about 2 1/2 - 3 hours using Toshiba's default setting for battery power.

my point is, y is toshiba selling a battery with life of 2hrs or less with a M100 dual Core? it does no last 1.3 hrs even after being set to long life. and worst when they do not inform buyers before they sell it.
That reply was classic. So now your only point is to why the battery has a short life rather than why they didn't replace your (supposedly defected) battery.

They are selling it because it's fine to do so. Mine lasts more than 2 hours consistantly... You haven't mentioned how long you've owned the laptop for, so I can't tell you for sure if it's from normal battery wear. Could also be a faulty AC adapter...etc.

my laptop is less than a month old

According to the specs, the regular 6 cell battery on the M100 is supposed to last over 5 hours. If you're getting less than two hours and the thing is less than a month old, I would contact Toshiba customer support and complain. You should be able to get to exchange the battery for a new one, but remember, you'll get more flies with honey than you will with vinegar. In other words, remain calm.

The recall that there was is something different. There was a batch of bad bateries that were being replaced reguardless if the customer complained about battery problems or not. If you model is not eliglble, then you won't fall into that program. That does not meanthat you cannot get your batery exchanged under warranty.

goonter, where did you get that spec from? from the specs i got for the M100 it states 3 hours battery life depending on usage.

From the Toshiba website. Go HERE and select the detailed specs pdf just under the customize button, or just click HERE to download the pdf.

my model is M100 with no specification of the battery mentioned when i buy. i called them few times but they ignored my complian. all they say is tat my battery life is suppose to last for 2 hours. not 5 hours.
Well, not sure if you realize this, but your LCD drains tons of your batteries.
If its set to be brightest all the time, you're never going to hit the 2 hour mark.
If you do lower the brightness and its still like that, well the second controlable thing to do is turn off the wireless. That eats up considerable batteries.

If you happened to purchase it at Best Buy and got a service plan from them, you can get a free battery :]
But somehow I doubt you did that, even if you did purchase it from Best Buy...

you my friend have absolutely no clue in how to handle this situation.

first of all, stop calling and whining that they didnt replace the battery.
second of all, stop telling them its supposed to last 5 hours...6-cell battery is NOT supposed to.

It seems Toshiba is getting advantage over you, and you let them fool with you like a sucker. Why?

Anyways, what you should do is Call those punjabee retards at Toshiba and tell them your battery is faulty.
you will be asked why it is fauly and you tell them that it lasts less than 1 hour under normal usage.
If they still say it is normal, then by all means call your lawyer or something.

Anyways, this wouldnt happen if you got your facts together before calling. The call probably went with customer service asking why you want the battery to be replaced and you telling them that it doesnt last 5-6 hours ike advertisied...to which they reply that it never is supposed to reach 5 hours.

M100 software toshiba problem, not bios

Yes ,, and If you need to ask them a simple question about Toshiba error in the site, you have to make a phone call and pay for it, in order to have support only for this. Are they crazy?. ********************************
