The browser war - Page 3

Firefox 2.0 RC1 right here.. extensions, cool new GUI, it's the best browser i have ever used.. someone should make a poll thread about this.. does anyone know about Firefox 3.0? I read somewhere that it used something called Direct3d? something about using your GPU to render pages thus taking some load off the CPU? could just be a rumour. I think Safari uses this technology too..

I've been using Opera for about six months now and I really enjoy it. Seems to be much more secure than Firefox. I still go back to Firefox or IE for certain sites (my bank website complains if I use FF or Opera).

One other thing that I like about Opera is that the tab system is different than Firefox's (note: I said different, not better). When first started using Opera I definately hated their tab system after using FF's, but I stuck with it for a while and I really like both styles now. For the uninitiated, when you close a tab in Opera it jumps back to the last tab you were viewing, versus the next tab in line in FF. Both are useful in different applications. Depending on what I'm doing I might want the queue style of FF tabs, but for day to day I usually like the Opera tabs.

FF 2.0 jumps back to the last tab viewed when you close the one you are on.. also there is now an "x" close button on each tab instead of the one at the end..

Firefox and Opera, simply cause they have less known exploitable bugs, and when they are found, they are fixed within a few days. IE7 is an improvement, but it is nothing to be content about. As IE has the largest user base (and largest group of "uninformed users") it is silly to allign yourself with those most likely to be attacked and exploited, even if you are security conscious. I am not saying that other broswers are more secure, just less targeted, like Mac's having no virii.

There are also so many other reasons of customibility, features, extensions that just seem to make choosing IE just... ignorant.

But, all are free to choose their browser, even if it is sacrificing quality for conformity.

Long live standards compliant software.
