Not fully. The Go 7 series is DirectX 9. There currently aren't any DirectX 10 cards.

no

DirectX 10 won't be compatible at all with old DX9 cards. However, you can still play DX10 supported games through DX9L in Vista.

Yes, DX10 supports the 7900GS. It is "backward compatable" to DX9 to allow it to function. You will not get any of the new bells and whistles though. I have gamed on both x32 and x64 vista with no problems. The 64bit patched games are SMOKIN'!!!

To say that the 7900GS is not DX10 compatible is to say the card will err out and not start windows seeing the new GUI is rendered using 3D. That would be crazy.

"Some drivers only support one version of DirectX. But DirectX is backward compatible, which means that newer versions support the older versions. For example, if one has DirectX 9 installed on one's system and runs a game that was written for DirectX 6, it should still work. The game will use what is called the DirectX 6 "interface." Every version of DirectX must support every previous version of DirectX. This is a positive consequence of the COM model used for this API."

DirectX 9 cards will be supported under DirectX 10, but only with DirectX 9 functionality. Saying they "won't be compatible at all" is wrong.

DX10 is NOT backwards compatible with DX9 or older versions.

I am not saying you won't be able to play DX10 games. You can play DX10 games with older hardware but you wouldn't be using DX10, it will go through a version of DX that is backwards compatible called DX9L.
