Weird browsing problems

On my 5760, running XP SP2.

There is a web-site (a university library) that I used to be able to use without any problems. Now, I cannot use it - with either Firefox or IE.

I have run a full system virus scan (BitDefender 10). The only items found were buried in some long unused zip files.

I ran SysInternals's Root Kit Revealer. The only stuff found were some items in tmep directories and I removed the entire contents of all such directories. (These were probably not real problems anyway).

As far as I know, there is no spyware on this machine.

Any ideas?

Any chance the site is down, or now requires a password?

No - I walked over ot another computer on the same private network, and it was able to access the site just fine...

I can't think of anything else that would cause your problem other than a change of settings in your browser or AV/spyware programs. Good luck.

Problem found - solution still sought.
The issue seems to be the antispyware 'feature' that comes as a part of BitDefender 10. Overall, I like the package - much less intrusive than NAV and Symatec. However, this 'feature' is most unwelcomed...

The website may be falling under the blocked IP ranges by Bit Defender. I know when I use PeerGuardian It blocks EVERYTHING. See if you can setup your own rules or execptions for the program. Or you can simply allow certain pages one by one.
