Any news on free Vista upgrade?

Over the summer, there were rumours that Microsoft and PC vendors would offer a coupon for a free Vista upgrade for Vista-ready computer purchases starting in October. Is there any truth to this?

prolly not, as a business it makes no sense for MS to give out free versions of their latest product. if you want a 180 day freebie you can try the Beta2...otherwise you're out of luck. There might be some promotion with Dell or something in the month before Vista is out though where Dell (not MS) will exchange your new PC's XP (that you buy a month before vista is out) for a Vista, thats kinda what Dell did with Windows Mobile 5.0 and x50v / x51v... an upgrade cd was available for $50 or something like that.
