O.K. here goes. I have no Idea what these mean because I've never done benchmarks. Feedback on what they mean would be appreciated

Dell XPS
3.4 Proc
1024 dual channel
60 gb 7200
ATI 9700

Aquamark3
GFX - 3,237
CPU - 9,498
-----------
27,650

Triangles/sec - 8,323,278 tps
FPS - 27.65

-----------

3DMark2001 SE
11,936

As for 3DMark01:
My old 2.4ghz 512mb desktop with a geforce4 ti4600 benches only 11800.
My 2.8 ghz 512mb laptop with a ati 9000-M benches 7006.
My current 3.02 ghz 1gig box with ati AIW 9800 Pro benches 17810.

Given that its about a 50% increase over my current laptop and beats my older game box, I think 11,936 for my XPS is a score I can live with for a while.

That's an improvement of 20 to 30% over the 8600 with 9600 pro! Medude got 3390 on his XPS for 3dmark03. XPS rocks!

From my previous review (config below):
3D Benchmark Scores with default settings & OEM ATI drivers:
AquaMark3 = 21618 (GFX = 2502, CPU = 7955)
3DMark 2001 SE = 9727
3DMark 03 = 2771

Thanks for the feedback, that gives a good perspective. I didn't really know what they meant, but I figured I owed it too post them

Anybody willing to try a little GPU overclocking on their XPS? If you download ATItool and let it run for awhile, it will automagically find the max overclocks for core and memory...Nixxed? Jay? Meddude?

It will be interesting to see how the 9700 oc's. Can't wait to try mine when it comes.

yea that would be sweet :P

I'm hoping we can crank the 3DMark score up to about 12,500...that's right around the level needed to run Directx 8.1 games at 1024x768 with 2x AA & 8x AF above 30FPS...definitely a sweet spot to shoot for considering it's a laptop!

I know that with a computer this large and powerful, bat life is in the corner of every buyers mind, but what kind of battery life are you guys getting (large battery life too please)? Also, I am addicted to power computers and want an XPS so badly, how loud is it?

I'll give you an update on battery life after I cycle the battery 3-4 times.

Not I said the wise man
I'm happy with the performance at normal settings

FYI, what does 'cycle the battery' mean? And, is it important to do this when I get my XPS? Thanks.

Cycling the battery just means that you charge and discharge the battery completely -- if I'm not mistaken, it is recommended to do this when you first get a new notebook, so that you'll get the maximum possible runtime per charge.

I think these type of batteries don't need to be conditioned, but people still do it :P OLD traditions die hard I guess you could say

9600 Pro overclock 378/255 - 3dmark03 = 2219. Sorry but considering the clock speed of the 9700 I am not impressed yet. Several people clock their 5680's to 400/300 and get basically the same 3d marks as the xps and they run stable.

Is jsut one thread about this. Not saying the xps is a bad machine - just not the orgasmatron that its being made out to be.
