Is jsut one thread about this. Not saying the xps is a bad machine - just not the orgasmatron that its being made out to be.
Not that I ever plan on over clocking my card, but in what way does it make sense to compare a Overclocked card to one that is not overclocked. I'm not one that overclocks my computer, so maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like you would be able to OC the 9700 to the same degree? Are you saying overclocking the 9700 would not be stable?????

Given that the basic architecture of the 9700 is the same, there is some speculation that the 9700 is simply a high quality/high clocked 9600. I would be very interested in seeing how the 9700 overclocks. My point I guess was that the 9600 running at the same clock speeds as the 9700 - gets the same or more in benchmarks, lending more weight to the fact that the 9700 is not radically new and improved over the 9600.

Have you downloaded fangui and watched how hot the gpu gets during intense gaming?
If no, can you do that?

And have you tried overclocking the gpu?

I think he said earlier that he doesn't want to overclock, I could be wrong tho...

AND about the lithium battery, my old toshiba actually said not to charge overnight, its strange, but I guess I'll check the dell manual and see what they say, lurk, wanna shed some light on this,

I've dowloaded fangui prior to receiving the laptop, I'm currently keeping an eye on the site as well as this one. I am waiting until they indicate on the site that they've tested it on the xps or 9100 architecture before I use it on mine.

Sorry it sounds like kinda being a weenie, but I've run into issues in the past with beta testing type stuff where it took to a while to sort out. Since I'm using for work, I can't afford to take that chance right now, If it was only for home use, I would do it in a minute.

I plan on steering clear of overclocking for a while.

Now you're going to make me read the manual?

Oh God, pages 50-71 are upside down and backwards in the manual, what a riot.

All I can find in the manual pertaining to that is the following "The battery's internal circuitry prevent the battery from overcharging", but that only pertains to the battery. I do know a regular lithium battery should not be left in a charger for more that 24 hours, but I don't know how a laptop figures into that theory. This is my first laptop.

oh sweet so this battery is special NICE works for me man. Lurk have you read my questino about that AC ADAPTER thing, I'm wondering y everyone is trying to get a bigger one and what not. Is there something wrong with the one that you get with the XPS ?

I see your point, that makes sense. Just being new to overclocking, I didn't understand the relation being the equal clock speed.

Thanks

The current battery seems equal to what I've read for battery life on desktop replacements. You just aren't going to get as much. I will not be getting a second battery, because I will almost always have access for AC Power. Although I definately need to be able to transport this, were I will use it will have power. If you plan on using it where you will not have AC access (airplains and such), I would recommend at least 1 extra. One person on the AW forum use 1+3 extras to give him the time he needs. If you need something with max battery life, you will probably need 2-3 batteries to give equal time compared to say the 8600. Then again, now that their coming out with air adapters, and quite a few of the planes either have or ar converting to access, it may not matter if dell comes out with an air/car adaptor for the XPS
