Occasionally boots normally, always boots in safe mode..

90% of the time my laptop will freeze up after the windows loading screen. Holding the power button will not turn off the laptop, I have to pull the battery.

If I boot in safe mode it will start up every time.

I've run norton scans and the system is clean, and system diagnostics shows that I passed everything..

Any ideas?

You have a camera, and you must have installed Alcohol 120% or Daemon tools.

There is a file that those CD programs use called SPTD.sys that makes the computer hang.

You can either get rid of the camera software, or get rid of your CD programs and delete the file.

Dell has no idea at this point.

Sucks, eh?

I'm running a fresh version of windows without the logitech webcam software. I am running on the bare minimum right now and still having problems.

9/10 times my laptop will not boot, holding the power button will not kill the laptop. I need to pull the battery...

System diag. ran fine, passed. I called Dell, they said it could be a motherboard problem. In the meantime they are sending me a brand new system, and I'll send back this defective one when it arrives.

Good deal.
