O.K. per Craigs request, I'm posting these over here. I realize it is the AW board. If I had any clue what they meant, well....

O.K. here goes. I have no Idea what these mean because I've never done benchmarks. Feedback on what they mean would be appreciated

ATI 9700

Aquamark3
GFX - 3,237

Jay,

Can you do a 3Dmark03 bench? Those numbers look very promising.

I have a copy downloading now, only the site braingoo has listed in the benchmarks is on going pretty slow at 36kbs so I may not be able to finish the download until morning. Unless I can find a faster site. I didn't realize it was 178mb or I would have done the download this morning

Do this:

Copy name of 3Dmark file

Go to www.filemirrors.com

Input the name in the search engine on the top right...download fast

Actually, I found one of the links that accept my download accelerator, so its downloading now at 183kbs. 15 minutes to go. If it cuts me off, I'll try the mirrors you mentioned. Otherwise, Once I get it I'll run the benchmark and post. Just add about 20 minutes to however long the benchmark takes.

There is an update patch for 3Dmark03 as well...be sure you can grab it as well. Or the program may not work.

I'm Using Build 340 of the site below does that look right? It just finished downloading so I need to burn it to a cd to transfer, my thumb drive was only 128mb

Two other benchmarks from the Dell forum.
Same configuration, but with only 512mb ram

3390 and 3358

Is that a bad sign with mine having 1024, or is that about right that the ram doesn't make much of a difference?

Thats a HUGE number, all tweaked out I only hit 2700.

This was clean from a reformat and reinstall with the factory drivers that came on the disk. I figured they probably don't have many new drivers since the release is less than a month old. No tweaking done yet. I did the reinstall about 5pm, but I figured I owed it to you guys, for all the great info I got off here in the last few months, to do benchmarks before I really got down to business..... Tweaks and games start tomorrow morning.

That dual channel memory must really make a difference. Does anyone know the response time of the Inspirons XPS' LCD? "The Inquirer" mentioned a latop from a big vendor that was going to have a response time of 20ms but couldn't say the name. This was a week before the XPS was announced. The XPS may not turn heads at a LAN party but it appears to be screamer.

I think the response time is between 20-25 from what I've heard.

Jay,

Those are excellent scores bro. Thanks for taking the time to get them up here!

I only got near those results one time with my machine overclocked so high I was scared it would fry out. To see you get it at default settings is very promising.
Once again, I'll admit that I'm jealous of your laptop! Rock on man and enjoy some gaming!

Thanks for the feedback, I had to get out and play golf today and had a few beers. Waiting to finally get a laptop since January 1st wore me down. Today I only turned it on today to cycle the battery (thanks to your previous recommendations). Tomorrow I'll start putting the laptop to use.

I can't say how much I've appreciated all the help from this forum in the last couple months. I'll keep you up to date on a review and how the thing really works when I get a chance to play around with it.

Thanks again for all the help in the past
