Thank you for the comments. I will be using the system as a desktop replacement with some heavy gaming (swg, bf2/2142, css, cod2, fifa, we9 to name a few), but I'll also be using it on business travel (ms project, excel, cedit, oracle, ppt, websphere, etc), movie/tv viewing, some work at home (grading papers, etc).
I do not like the super tiny resolutions for regular work, but at the same time I want the best resolution/performance for gaming.
Although the specs haven't been announced for the 9750 yet, I'd speculate that the proc will start around 1.6 or 1.8 and go up from there, RAM will start at 1GB, and the vid card will start with a single 7950 gtx.
I'll be spec'ing mine to the best bang for buck proc, 2 GB ram, integrated tv tuner with remote, and the best value on the vid cards. I really don't want to go above $2500 but am willing to go up to 3k max. The display upgrade to uxga takes a big bite out of my budget, however, it is one of the few components that cannot be easily upgraded...so it puts me in a bit of a quandry. If the difference is that big, then I'll go with 1GB ram and a smaller hdd for the time and upgrade those separately.
I'll want this unit to last me for at least 3 to 4 years for mobile gaming, so I want to get the best config possible, and right now the display is the only thing that really has me worried. That and I really, really hope that they allow the 9750 to have the heavenly silver that the 9700 has vs. the black case that has been shown for it so far.
edit: Will the cards allow higher resolution with external displays or do they lock them down somehow? I do have a nice 19" display for my current desktop that I could use as needed.
