Just added RAM to my MBP

Thread Starter
When I purchased my MBP I only got the stock 512 RAM. I've noticed it starting to hang and run a little slow so I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to 2 GB.

HOLY CRAP!

This thing flies now. New appreciation for memory power.

Just wanted to gloat.

Hooray for me.

i still find my mb with 1.25 to be al ittle slow at times.

woulda thought better, maybe im just expecting too much?

well, what are you running? a memory hog like photoshop?

i have 1.25 gb ram in my trusty iBook, and I have yet to run short of ram, but then again, no photoshop or video editing here :P

im never using more than 600mb of my 1.25.

i think osx is nicer overall, but just a tad slower than an xp box. (as far as things opening).

its just a different experience for me i think. ill get use to it. probably buy a 7200 one day.

compared to my old XP laptop that was very similar in hardware, OSX seems to open things about as fast, limited by the hard drive it seems. Either way, give XP about 3-4 months, it will slow down enough that your Macbook should run a few circles around it :P

I always have a lot of stuff open, so I'm using usually 800-900 MB ram!

512mb original was sluggish
1.25GB (1gb uprgrade + 256 original) was snappy
2GB (2 x 1GB) didnt feel any faster than 1.25

I got a good deal at frys.com for my 2GB ($190 Corsair at Frys.com) but in all honesty is overkill. I run parallels but i dont allocate it more than 512 since thats what ive been running for years on my pc.

1GB is probably the sweetspot for most people.

If you're using a Computer Aided Design software there is no such thing as too much RAM! I currently use Unigraphics (NX4) and 2 GB is the min that anyone would want to use with this program, anything less is a painful experience. I can't wait until they allow 4 GB of RAM in these Macbook Pros, that's what I am holding out for. Anyone think they will update the Macbook Pro to hold 4 GB RAM soon?

Does running programs like Photoshop/Dreamweaver/Office that are on PPC run any faster? All of them seem to be extremely sluggish on my computer.

they will be slow if you have an intel chip.

just not made for it.

Those programs that you mentioned have yet been ported to the intel chips so they will run slow. New Photoshop and Office will hopefully be released soon. I'm not sure about dreamweaver. So, those apps that you mention will run better on ppc systems as of now. Universal versions of the majority of important apps are in the making.
