That's a fair reason. I was thinking about both companies before I decided on the Alienware laptop. Hopefully it will be here next week but who knows. I'm patient.

I was deciding between the two companies as well but I had been waiting almost 4yrs. now to own an alienware and finally am going for it! The deciding factor for me was the options that the M9700 had over the dell. you get a full keyboard, built in cam, dual graphics, dual hard drives, and best of all envy from everyone who sees you use it MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Me too.. I have been building my own desktops for awhile and have always wanted to have an AW. So, I decided it was time to retire my old Dell C600 lappy.

Thursday 10/12/06 Late night searching the eternal internet and I just happened to realize that I need a better laptop. First off I cannot play any game made after 2004, or at least that is what it seems like. Second I have wanted an alienware computer for a very long time and near about 2 months ago found out they were making laptops "yes I'm in heaven". So what else does someone do when they've got a few extra dollars to spend and a very healthy taste for hi-performance? Duh! They Click* purchase for a new Alienware m9700 and end up with major disturbance in sleep pattern and both co-workers and boss notice you are not paying attention to your regular duties.
I cannot wait, no take that back I'll wait only because this will be my first Alienware which makes me a virgin and in some things rushing can ruin the moment.
Ordered 10/12/06
Phase3 10/15/06
Phase5 10/17/06
I've noticed what others have already brought up about the not so 24 hour/up to date/ real-time phase that alienware claims on their website. However the only phase that matters to me is the Box at my doorstep phase.
I live in Michigan and there is a chance for snow early next week which is supposed to be the delivery date for my system. I'll be praying for an el nino like affect and 80 degree temps to save me from possible disaster.
Thanks to all who wrote many informative posts that gave me the juevos to pony up and purchase something to be proud of.

congrats! I too am a first time buyer of an alienware but I been waiting for a very very long time to take that leap. I can't wait till it is here. My sleep patterns haven't been messed up but they are going to be now knowing that it is shipped and on its way!
I live in Indiana so the snow won't be a problem for me, however, it has been raining way to dang much and hope it is not when they deliver and there is no flud to get in the way because our rivers are friggin high right now. Hopefuly they will get it out thier door and on your door step before the snow hits you but being this early in the season I wouldn't think it would be all that bad. but here is crossing fingers for you.

Georgia here, a mere "walk" to Florida.
No snow, just 3 seasons. Hot, hotter, Hottest.
I've been wanting a laptop for some time, alienware and dell were my two choices but after seeing what the M9700 had, I couldn't resist. It beats my Athlon 2600 with a GeForce 4 Ti4200 graphics card....
My tracking isn't updated at FedEx's database. Just will have to wait until tomorrow. The only thing that can ruin my day is if the scheduled delivery time is Friday. We have a major software release that day and unless QA signs off on our software, we have to sit there UNTIL it gets the final go ahead. I suppose I'll just have my gf sign for it then bring it to me @ work so I could have something to do. It usually ends up being a lot of sitting around waiting for QA to find a bug that MUST be fixed before it is gold. Hoping for Thursday!

Ordered Thursday October 12th @ or around 7:00 p.m. immediately put on phase one.
Sunday October 15th somehow I recieved an update email stating I was thus pushed towards Phase 3
Tuesday October 17th I was leaping towards the moon at Phase 5
Thursday October 19th "YES" Stage 9/10" I've received e-mail verification that my new M9700 has been picked up by a fedex courior and is now on it's way from Florida to good ole' Grand Haven, Michigan. I might just get it before or by saturday if I'm lucky. That would thus put it at 8 or 9 days recieved from it's conception in the mothership's womb.
Very very happy with the ability for Alienware to take the Aurora m9700 pre-production orders delivery time of near a month to todays date of near just a mere weeks time. I thought I would be waiting at least until the middle or the end of next week to find out that my computer was ready to be shipped. But what can I say luck has held out for me on this one.
Now let us just see if I get my computer without a glitch.

Recieved my laptop. I left home after lunch only to see the fedex truck going the OTHER direction. So I made a mad uturn, get behind a jerk driving 35 in a 45 and met the fedex guy as he was filling out a "we tried to bring the package" note for the door.
powered it up at work, wow, this thing is gorgeous. I am a software developer so all my coding coworkers were oo`ing and aaah`ing over the M9700. Everyone asked to touch it! The touchpad is slick, I love how it's smooth like the rest of the paintjob. One person said the paintjob is similar to what it feels like on a car. Anyway, review later tonight with photos. I'm just in awe. Kudos to HH for his review, it was his that made me decide on this particular one.

Just checked the updated Fedex delivery schedule and it appears that the black box left their Orlando site @ 4:30 a.m. this morning. I'm probably looking at a monday or tuesday receive date. I was really hoping they would let some guy on a hayabusa motorcycle strap it down on the back and haul some to get it here by Saturday. However it seems they don't have those types of delivery vehicles available.
Congratulations Sirkut. Something tells me that the M9700 is going to be a generally problem free system, and one that will last long enough until we all need the next "it" lappy (from aw of course). Enjoy!

this is the only reason why i am starting to hate purchasing stuff directly from alienware. They take so long to deliver and i bet you, you guys are from the states which means you get super fast delivery. From what i read, it took sirkut 15 days for his machine to get processed, built, and shipped. the same for wind walker. But for me.....i cant order from america but i must order from europe (they still dont have windows media edition and no tv tuners) and if i order a M9700, then i should be expecting a delivery time of 30-45 days. And if i am lying, you may call CS in the UK to verify this. oh and if you have a mALX on order in the uk, tough luck, you should be getting it between 3-4 months but 4 months right now most likely.
its not like they build the computers in the states and send it to europe coz the USA, UK, and Australia all have workshops of their own.
i am not sure, but i dont want to give out wrong info, but i dont think the mALX has a tv tuner, slingbox, chameleon diamondbaxk mouse, custom name plate, or windows media edition in their system. Like i said, Alienware USA refuses to ship international so all i do now is envy every one of you who have anything from alienware, surf ebay hoping that someone might want to sell their laptop, and keep on coming to this site hoping that a member here who wanted to sell his mALX is still willing to sell it.
last month i sent an email to the corporate sales department for alienware in america and in europe and i compiled a list of people from my country (bahrain) who are ready and willing to buy alienware systems. We heard that if you buy more than 5 machines at once, you get a better deal. So since i am the one with the computer/arcade business, everyone i knew decided on me being the main person for the order. I looked at how many machines we were talking about (4 sentias, 4 m9700, 1 mALX, 1 area-51 7500, 1 area-51 5500, and 1 ALX)and i thought that i should ask alienware about a reseller program. All they told me was that they currently do not have a reseller program but if i had a website and linked their site to it and people bought from them off of my site, that i would be receiving $80 per order. They also ignored my message about the computers.
So i asked again about the computers and i added that i would like to be a future retailer. i would even love to build a workshop in my country, build these machines and make them available in arabic which would be something new to them and distribute to the middle east. i think i got their attention when i was talking about this so i was happy and was looking forward to hearing their reply......attention??? haha not even close. They replied to me yes, but this is basically what the email said ''kindly configurate these computers through our website and be specific so we can know what you need exactly with these computer''.........it was as if everything i wrote after the computers was a bunch of bull.
So for the third time, i thought that by this time they really didnt care if i was talking about investing in the company and so i configurated all 12 machines like they asked and sent the info to the corporate sales. 16 days later and still no reply.
so here i am, viewing these forums waiting for a member to reply to my PM about selling his mALX, going on ebay, and checking my mail to see if someone from Alienware finally realizes how much money i could be talking about and decides to atleast send an email saying that they dont really care. but, no luck for me.
just for the record, i dont mean to start any negative debate about the company, i am still an alienware fan and looks like i will be a fan for a while now. now i need to get my new fragbox out and check it out.
